This is the first mass produced hybrid of an face turning and edge turning hexahedron. The puzzle has two cuts per axis for both axis systems. Its shape is a biscribed truncated octahedron, one of the biscribed non-chiral solids.
The shape can be confused with a truncated octahedron an archimedean solid but that would have had regular hexagons. A puzzle with regular hexagons would have needed additional pieces. Therefore this shape was used.
