This puzzle is a variation on the Helicopter Cube. The cuts are angled in order to reveal the otherwise hidden centerpieces which also creates the beautifully curved face pattern. Showing the centerpieces makes the puzzle a bit more difficult as they need to be oriented correctly for the puzzle to be solved.
Just like the original Helicopter Cube, the Curvy Copter jumbles enabling combinations to be reached which would otherwise be unattainable due to parity restrictions. Among these states is the so-called "Mezon"-state which is shown in image 4.
The mechanism is more-or-less the V-Cube 3 design adapted to the rhombic dodecahedron.
In the beginning the puzzle was sold on Shapeways as a DIY kit for at least 185 USD, depending on the material. This puzzle attended the design competition during IPP30 in 2010.
Edge length: 57 mm
Weight: 73 grams
In July 2011 Mefferts started selling a mass produced version. See images 4-7.
