Like the original Windmill (made from a 3x3x3) this puzzle was turned inside its solid around one axis. This new variant is made from a 2x2x2.
The first version of this puzzle was presented in 2008 by the now absent forum member Simon45. He gave it the name "Broken Window Cube"
In 2010 Claus Wenicker reinvented this puzzle and gave it the more systematic name "Windmill 2x2x2".
