The "geared" variant of the Pyraminx.
This puzzle is the result of a discussion between the creator and Evgeniy Grigoriev. This can happen when you start a discussion which other puzzles can be changed to have gears! This is the first puzzle with gears that was not created by Oskar van Deventer.
Compared with the original Pyraminx this puzzle has no trivial tips. There are two layers per axis. The edges are rotated and moved in the same twist. One twist rotates the edges by 5 (out of 6) teeth and the corners by 8 (out of 9) teeth. Therefore the puzzle is more difficult than the original Pyraminx. In contrast to this the Gear Cube is easier than the original 3x3x3.
The original design was available through a 3D printing service beginning in 2011. In January 2012 a mass produced version from Meffert's became available.
Edge length: 98 mm
Weight: 98 grams
