This is a newly designed variant of the many Gear Cubes. It could be confused with a Gear Cube Extreme without the central layer but it turns differently.
The Gear Cube Extreme allows turns not available on the Gear 2x3x3. It allows 90° turns or their geared cousins.
The Gear 2x3x3 allows 90°-turns without gears on one axis and 180° turns on the other two. The latter are demonstrated in image 5.
