Two 2x2x2s fused with one common cubie.
The origins of this puzzle have been lost in the early days of twistypuzzles. It was part of the original Virtual Puzzle museum and therefore is older than 2000.
Glen A Heller built the version shown in image 1.
After the original a mass produced version hit the market, togehter with the Triple 2x2x2 and the Quadruple 2x2x2 which have their own entries. It is based on the mini 2x2x2 from Eastsheen from Chen Sen Li.
Eastsheen produced this puzzle with at least four different packages. One is titled "Double Multi Cube".
