A face turning octahedron. Built without CAD before the age of 3D printing.

This masterpiece of the legendary Katsuhiko Okamoto was presented long before the mass produced face turning octahedron. Compared with the mass produced FTO (face turning octahedron) the Dino Octa has centers as additional pieces which are present but invisible in the FTO. The Dino Octa was built without CAD and 3D printing technology by Katsuhiko Okamoto who built the first Master Skewb three years before this creation. Although both puzzle share an identical axis system (with three layers each) and three equivalent pieces types the two puzzles are not truly equivalent.
The Dino Octa implements the C1 piece type (known from e.g. Compy Cube) while the Master Skewb has the C4 piece type (known from e.g. Skewb)
Piece type signature: HC2[F3 C1 E3 X9][F3]

The puzzle has 158260810061489362698240000000 = 158*10^27 permutations if all pieces are considered distinguishable and their orientations visible.
Compared with the number available if the puzzle can be disassembled and reassembled there are these restrictions:
-The permutation of the corners must be even.
-The orientation of the last corner is determined by the others.
-The permutation of the edges must be even.
-The triangles fall into two sets. In both sets the permutation must be even.
Stickered as shown here the puzzle has 376897600550338560000000 = 377*10^27 permutations.

The Dino Octa lived as a unique puzzle until Clayton Ertley redesigned it in 2010 unknowing about Okamotos creation. However this new version was CADed and 3D printed.

In 2014 MF8 presented a series "Crazy Octahedron Plus". The version "Standard" (image 3) is a reimplementation of this puzzle.
