The Skewb is a puzzle that rotates around a core with 4 axes. When twisting you turn exactly one half of the cube at a time.
Invented by Tony Durham Uwe Meffert picked it up and marketed it under the name "Pyraminx Cube" until Douglas Hofstadter came up with the name Skewb which was subsequently picked up by Mefferts and has stuck up to this day.
Besides the 3x3x3 it represents the most popular puzzle for shape variants.
Piece type signature: HC1[F3 C4][C4]
The solution booklet in image 8 was sold with Mefferts skewb during the late 1990s. It has received its own entry.
The package in images 9-10 was used for a production run by Mefferts for a german company during the early 1990s. In that run the puzzle was named "IQ-Cube".
The package shown in images 11-15 was used in the 2000s.
In 2014 Meffert's started selling a new variation called ''New Skewb Cube''. The difference is that the new ones uses a double foot, or better known as a torpedo, under the square faces. This reduces the amount of popping dramatically but makes the assembly process harder. The New Skewb was specifically designed for speed cubing. Image 7 shows the double foot.
