This 2x2x2 cube has a metal ball for a core and eight pieces with magnets around it.
A silver line runs along the surface. It reminds one of the create-the-line-concept.
This is a late follow-up of the first patent dealing with a 2x2x2 (as we would call it nowadays) because the first puzzle with this functionality used magnets in the pieces and a steelball as core. Therefore it is attributed to Larry Nichols who applied for that old patent in 1970.
This puzzle was shown in the book "Puzzles Old and New How to Make and Solve Them" which was published in 1986.
