The goal of the Sun Cuboid was to create a puzzle with a unique solving experience, and reducing everything that doesn't add much to it, but makes the mechanism more complicated. In this case, the interesting parts are the two intricately split outer layers, to make the cube work, the easiest way is to use a 1x1x3 as core. The cuts in the outer layers are the same as in the Sun Cube. Links
