A variation of instant insanity with 4 balls in a frame.
Every of the four balls can be moved independent from the others. Each ball has 6 dots oriented like the faces of a cube. There are 4 different colours. The aim of the puzzle is to orient the balls in a way that on every column no colour is present twice.
It was produced with white and black bodies.
The black versions in images 2 and 3 show small differences. There was a separate russian version for the soviet union which package is seen in images 7-11.
There is a long row of puzzle in this tradition dating back into the 19th century. "Instant Insanity" is the name known best.
Beginning in 1980 Ideal Toy Corporation produced a variant names "Trikki 4", "Cube-4" or "Face 4".
The earliest known trace of this puzzle is from 1900 when Frederick A Schossow filed a patent (US646463).
