An inside look at the classic 3x3 cube.

As you can see, the cube has a six axes, each hosting the relatively "unmovable" center piece. The center pieces are the only pieces bound to these axes, while the rest of the pieces may move freely around the cube, kept in place interdependently by the rest of the pieces.
