A Dogic reassembled to have a different colour layout.

Geert Hellings wonders if he and a friend of his are the only two people ever to build a set of Dogic 2's. The Dogic is a rare and expensive puzzle these days, which makes modifications of it almost inconceivable.

On the original Dogic, the five large and five small triangle pieces around each of the 12 points of the puzzle have the same colour. There are 12 different colours. On the Dogic 2, the three small and three large triangle pieces around each of the 20 faces have the same colour. Since the Dogic 2 is built from Dogics that have 12 colours, the most logical colour scheme is to 10-colour the Dogic 2, using each of the 10 colours twice, placing them on opposite faces.

If you do the math, you'll find that you require a multiple of 12 Dogics to make Dogic 2's without wasting pieces. Also note that not all of the 12 resulting Dogic 2's can have the same colour scheme.

Collecting 12 Dogics to build Dogic 2's may well be impossible these days. Geert is probably correct in his assumption... and probably will remain correct unless someone starts producing Dogics again.

However in 2004 Uwe Meffert was told by the original inventors that they produced a few samples of the 10 color-variant. This information was given to Mefferts while he bought the moulds from Hungary for starting his own rund of the Dogic. A run which included variants with 5, 10, 12 and 20 colors.
