This puzzle was shown in a catalogue from 1972 advertising "Hubley Toys". There it was described as this:
Slide the seven cubes-in-a-cube until all outside faces show black. Out of 40320 combinations only one is correct. Other BLOXBOX puzzlers plus a tricky secret solution come with this handsome cube.
There were at least two differently coloured versions.
