The original Gift Cube was designed by Oskar van Deventer after an idea of Matthew Farnsworth. After presenting the Gift Cube, Will Kretschmer suggested adding hinges to overcome a problem of the original design which could fall apart when opened.
Like the first version the Hinged Gift Cube has big cavity inside and can be opened when it is solved. Due to the hinges it can't fall apart in this state. There are two pairs of pieces each which are always connected through the hinges. The puzzle there behaves bandaged like "Rubik's Triamese Fused Cube".
