The inventor was inspired by an article about the Fifty-Nine Icosahedra. He recognized that the Excavated Dodecahedron, the third stellation of the icosahedron, could be turned into a twisty puzzle without slicing through any of the faces.
It was simultanously inspired by an Alexander's Star. All cuts happen on edges of the shape, and it turns into an edge-only Pyraminx Cyrstal.
This puzzle was part of the puzzle advent calendar 2023.
