The original designer, Minh Sanghsu also goes by the name dolimo so it looks like it's legit!

Have any other of dolimo's puzzle been mass produced? Looking at the museum I see basically a list of everything I never knew I wanted so badly...

Yeah, like, seriously... what!?
I'm just curious as to how stable these puzzles are, given the large amount of tiny pieces that must be interacting.

I remember Ming. I came across his puzzles when I was looking to see if a Skewb + 2x2 hybrid was made. To my surprise, the only mechanical thing I found was a 2x2 Rex Skewb hybrid, and I fell in love with his puzzles from there
I'm really happy a puzzle of his is getting produced.

A corner-edge turning hybrid with such a beautiful cut pattern? Seems like another puzzle for my wishlist.
I hope his 3x3x3 + Rex Cube hybrid will be mass-produced as well one day. My two favorite to solve puzzles mixed into one!

These hybrids are so much fun to solve. They offer many different possible approaches and the routines for them are quite intuitive and flexible. I think everyone that enjoyed solving should be adding the Flower Copter to their collection.

Got mine late last week. Seems to turn fine. As others have said, it's a bit squishy, but I have't found that to be a problem. The stickers were poorly placed. A couple are already peeling, which is disappointing. Probably going to have to cut some new ones or order them when they become available from Oliver or Chewie.

So, mine arrived 2 days ago.
Any remarks I have about the puzzle quality/performance have been made on this forum before.
Here's a quick breakdown though:
- When jumbling, the internal parts of the petals will block certain moves which *should* be legal.
- The cube is squishy due to its many parts, which leads to a lot of catching when the puzzle is not in a nice cube shape.
- Plastic and sticker quality are satisfactory, as I have come to expect from LanLan. The cube did arrive with one peeling sticker
In short: at this price point and considering the complexity of the puzzle (92 external pieces!), I must say I'm quite happy with it.
It also really impresses all of my non cuber friends (i.e. all of my friends)
Solving the cube was easier than I expected. Maybe I got lucky and didn't experience some kind of parity case.
I've only seen people mentioning the rotated corner parity, which I did experience and was easy enough to solve.
Edit: There's also a 2 switched edges parity.
Edit2: yay for patterns!

Can you be more specific about what you mean by this?
I suppose if you solve into the wrong orientation that could result in what looks like two swapped edges?

Your assumption is right; I've encountered this once during a solve. It's possible to mix up the orientations because individual edge pieces can be reoriented using the Curvy Copter moves.

Yeah so this doesn't happen on a Dino Cube because the edge orientations are restricted such that only 12 orientations are possible but adding in the edge moves allows for changing of orientations and this would open up all 24 possibilities for the edges except that would require the edges reach an odd permutation. So when it looks like you have a pair of edges swapped, actually you have 5 pairs of edges swapped and one pair not swapped.
I like the quirks that often come with hybrid puzzles

I started playing with this puzzle yesterday and have been stuck with what i thought was two edges swapped. The above explanation has really helped me understand what was going on. Thanks!

That's exactly it! These and other quirks are what I love about twisty puzzles. It's always so satisfying to figure out what's going on.
.. and it looks like we helped Janice.

Does anyone know how to work out how many combinations we have in this puzzle (with and without jumbling moves)?

diascosta wrote:Does anyone know how to work out how many combinations we have in this puzzle (with and without jumbling moves)?
Uh I haven't done this in a while so I'm a bit rusty. Here goes my by-hand attempt:
Pieces:
- 8 corners, 3 orientations each, all distinct -> (8! * 3^8)
- 12 edges, 2 orientations each, all distinct -> (12! * 2^12)
- 24 right-chiral petals, no orientation, 6 groups of 4 -> (24! / (4! ^ 6))
- 24 left-chiral petals, no orientation, 6 groups of 4 -> (24! / (4! ^ 6))
- 24 tornados, no orientation, 6 groups of 4 -> (24! / (4! ^ 6))
Interactions and limitations:
- Edges can only be in even permutations -> (2)
- The parity of edge flips is tied to the permutation parity of corners -> (2)
- The puzzle can be solved into 12 different orientations (edge parity prevents the other 12 orientations) -> (12)
So by my count that should be:
((8! * 3^8) * (12! * 2^12) * (24! / (4! ^ 6))^3) / (2 * 2 * 12) =
370050414962849475112543947388802475128811876777984000000000000000
Edit: confirmed with gap:
Code: Select all gap> TrueSize(flowerCopter_all, colors6) / 12;
370050414962849475112543947388802475128811876777984000000000000000
