The technique of transforming an Octagonal Prism into a Fishers Cube applied to a standard 3x3x3.

There is also an alternative version (please refer to image 2) that had an additional spike.
The year given here is an upper bound. This puzzle was shown in "The book of ingenious and diabolical puzzles" from 1994.
Decades later a mass produced version hit the market, produced with black an white body.
