A bandaged 3x3x3 similar to the Bicube but with a very different challenge.

Between 2001 and 2005 the inventor created a series of bandaged 3x3x3 in search of new experiences in solving. This variant was one of them. It resembles the "Special 2x2x2" in the museum but imposes a new challenge. Compared with the trivial predecessor there is no fused block in the red, blue, yellow corner.
Other forum members who tried this variant all reported how complicated it is to even scramble it. This is even more astonishing as it has 580 configurations with 432 permutations each => a mere 250560 states in total.
The first three images show the variant rebuilt with the cubetwist DIY kit. The fourth image shows the original (awful looking) variant.
The scheme is reimplemented in the Corner Pocket but with an additional shape transformation.
