Not only was this puzzle a massive achievement in design and construction, new casting techniques were introduced by the inventor (two part molding where half is poured and partially solidified then squished onto the rest) to make such an endeavour possible in a reasonable amount of time.
The first sample auctioned for $2250 on Ebay in 2008.

In 2009 a mass produced version was presented by Cube4You.
