TWISTYPUZZLES.COM NEWSLETTER
Issue #27 - October 2004
Hello again, everyone!

Yep, another very small, very late newsletter. If you ever get sick of these, feel free to help out by contributing some content! You can find a list of my current requests for specific help here.

There is some good news in the works, however. A bunch of my time recently has been spent working on a brand new feature which will be of particular interest to those of you who are mechanically minded...!

In the month of September, we only managed to add 5 new items, modify 7 more, and add 22 new high-quality pictures. Special thanks go out to Tony Fisher who contributed pictures and information of his four most recent custom puzzles, Jeff Goetz who added one and modified one, and Jin H Kim who updated one.

New Features / Changes / Bug Fixes

The following is a list of the things that have changed on the site over the past month. You may already have noticed these changes in place.

  1. New Articles. Three new articles were added this month. Ad van der Schagt contributed "The History of Peter's Black Hole" and "K-Ball Review". Hidetoshi Takeji graciously allowed me to link to his article about creating a "Dodecahdron from a 4x4x4". Thanks to both of them for their efforts. See the Articles section.
  2. Search Form Bug. Turns out this disruption was caused by an error in my JavaScript that allowed users to submit the various Search forms using the enter key instead of having to click the corresponding form sumbission buttion. My host is a little upset with me, but at least the bug is gone... I hope. If you have a few minutes to spare, please try submitting the Advanced Search form using both the enter key and Advanced Search button, and I'll scan the logs for anamolies during the next few days. Please let me know via e-mail ASAP if anything unexpected happens.
  3. Removed Chat. It stopped working for some reason, and I couldn't be bothered trying to fix it since no one was using it anyhow. I will add a more fully featured version in the future when PHPBB comes out with a version of their forum that allows external logins. This will allow every feature on the TwistyPuzzles.com site (forum, collection manager, chat, and future stuff) to be tied into the same login system.

New Puzzles

The following puzzles were added to the database during the past month. If you have a puzzle to add, click here! Click on any puzzle image to view its complete puzzle page.

  3x3x5
Tony Fisher's version.
    Bear Fishing
A cheap knock-off with a cartoon bear going fishing on it.
    Cubie Chaos 1
A small number of Eastsheen 2x2x2s joined and extended to form a 2x4x5 block which poses a new kind of challenge.

  Cubie Chaos 2
A small number of Eastsheen 2x2x2s joined and extended to form a 3x4x4 block which poses a new kind of challenge.
    Overlapping Cube
A combination between a 4x4x4 and a 5x5x5.

Modified Puzzles

Information on the following puzzles was modified (either added or edited) during the past month. Not all changes are minor, some are complete over-hauls and should be seen! Click here to find out how you can modify a puzzle. Click on any puzzle image to view its complete puzzle page.

  2x2x4
A bandaged 4x4x4 variation that tries to simulate a 2x2x4. Each "cubie" is a 2x2x1 sized block. It turns out to be more complex since in some cases it allows 90-degrees-turns, where as a real 2x2x4 wouldn't.
    Equator Massage Ball
A six-coloured massage ball version of the Equator.
    Espagne 82
This 2x2x2 cube features a Spain World Cup 1982 theme.

  Globe Puzzle
A very low quality 3x3x3 puzzle.
    Lion King Puzzleball
This version shows Mufasa, Sarabi, Timon and Pumba in 3D relief.
Siamese Cube (aka: Siamese 3 (1x1x3))
The Mefferts version. Designed for easy disassembling.

  Special 2x2x2
This puzzle is one of the easiest.

See you next month!
