fusion cubes do look neat, but i dont find them any more difficult than a standard 3x3x3 because they dont limit your possible moves very much.
i simulated one of the center cubes on a 3x3x3 and found that its probably the hardest puzzle i own. at any given time, you can only twist two faces, and depending on which you twist, you get a different set of twistable faces. double twists do not change the possible twists, and of course, if the 3x1x1 block is not on the 2nd face, you can twist it w/o consequence to the possible twists. so far, ive been able to position 2 or three pieces on simulation of the center cubes
:edit: i was taking the completely wrong approach, ive spent an hour or so on it now (no that is not very long i know), but ive been able to get a good portion of the pieces in place, but the algs are going to be ridiculously complicated latter on.

Wow thats really nice, i have yet to make a Siamese cube. I think tat might be my next mod.
