Consider this a poll.
Searching for Building information for the Octaminx, for example, would indeed be easier under a more refined forum system, but is it worth it?
Is there anyone else who would like to see this sort of break down in message content?
Splitting things up poses the risk of making it less friendly for people who read everything, regardless of the topic. Is there anyone who is only interested in reading one type of message, and wouldn't end up browsing through all the sections anyhow?

Actually when the forum was fairly new I thought about making such a suggestion but decided against it while I was in the process of writing such a post.
I found that when you split the forums too much you end up with too much fragmentation of the user base as users naturally gravitate toward their own separate sections. I think the current forum structure is ok considering the low number of messages and registered users. That may change in a year or more but not now.

I used to be a regular on a film making forum a few years back. It was broken up into about 5 categories. The problem was that everyone always posted everything and anything into the most popular (most heavily posted) category.
Therefore, although there were several categories, no one used them properly.
