Yes, you are right. Those are eastsheen pieces.. The internal mechanism is definitely either an eastsheen 4x4 or a meffert/rubik 4x4. The outside pieces look to be 5x5 eastsheen pieces...

Second, I have use no element of existing cubes. I have design and made all the pieces and particularly the mecanism. There is more than 200 pieces in this cube !!!

One curiousity, it's a bit hard to make out, but is tha a complete checkerboard pattern or is the top face not checkered in the picture?

Well, I haven't decided whether I should like to sell this beast. It looks great and I have had fun building it, but I don't really have a collection. But I could probably trade it for... a 6x6x6 ? :-) doh!

But i was wondering, looking at the pictures it looks as if an edge and the piece next to it have a cut out the size of a 3x3x3's the obviously wouldn't seem to alow the turning of a 6x6x6, how did you do it?

(If that didn't make sence heres what i mean, the circular cut out visible is the same size as on a 3x3x3 cube, implying that it would turn as one -about that 3x3x6 edge- which it visibly does not.)

I hope that someone will produce the 6x6x6 in the next year or ... two years (at least one of the 6x6x6 types).
Is there no firm (Rubiks, Meffert, Eastsheen or ... ?) that has interest in the production of such a puzzle ?

Sorry, I forgot to add my congratulations! What can one say?

I've worked with Photoshop to try to exaggerate any differences in the sticker colours on the top face, but was unable. It certainly does appear as though the top face is pure green.

Then again, whenever I follow the familiar checkerboard algorithm on a 4x4x4, I end up with this same problem. Four sides checkered, two sides solid.

The complication is that pieces of the kind marked X and Y below (a view of one face) must stay in locations of the same type. You can check this by considering the action of each face turn and slice move. It is easy to construct 3-cycles of (say) type-X pieces, so that all _distinguishable_ permutations of type-X pieces are achievable.

Maxime, I hope you are working toward a patent on this design. Furthermore, I hope you are working on a contract with one of the puzzle manufacturers. Given some of the behaviors we have seen in the puzzle world, you need to be filing patents immediately, if not yesterday, in order to protect you intellectual property rights. Congratulations and best of luck.

It looks ultimately difficult to make and solve.

Solving will not be a problem you can use the same method as for a 4x4x4, it is only much more work compared to a 4x4x4.

Where is Proffesor Koran who claimed he had almost made the patent for 6x6,7x7 and bigger cubes? No relation with Mr Verdes, inventor of olympic cubes? First news about Verdes were a lot of years ago too, right?

Do anybody know if it was any connection between those? Even more, was Laure in the middle of the subject too?

Quite strange that too many proyects for 6x6 and, 4 years later, still unable to buy those........

(i'm sorta new, so noob question:) when someone creates a new puzzle, do they patent it right away? like ex. did tony get a patent for his golden cube? do other puzzle-creators get patents? cuz i am interested in building new cubes. just wondering. of course this 6x6 has been made by many people. but does one person hold the patent? from stopping other people to sell it when they make it?

Unfortunately in the U.S. a utility patent done correctly by a lawyer costs about $8000+.
Also, the patent covers the internal mech. Therefore, if somebody comes up with a new way for the insides to work then they can sell their own idea.

I think it's like how there's a Rubik's and an Eastsheen 4x4 and 5x5. However don't quote me on this cause there's some international stuff going on and laws change from country to country.
