I've really been getting into cubing a lot lately and I started bringing them to school. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW STUPID SOME PEOPLE ARE! Everyone who touched it turned it once and then turned it back and then yelled hey I solved it! I brought my megaminx to school one day. Everyone thought it was eight sided for some odd reason. My chemistry teacher saw it on my desk and then asked me if i had a brain tumor. (he actually figured out how to solve the cube in one day) Anyone else have stories of people annoying you about Rubik's cubes?

I know exactly what you mean. Everyone thinks it's so hilarious when they just move one layer 90 degrees then turn it back << A lot of people comment on my 5x5x5, everyone thinks I'm a freak now because I can solve it. Wait until I get a 7x7x7 If people are nice about it then I don't mind. It makes for good conversation.

I agree, it's one of the most annoying and aggravating things that happens to me. then when it happens 4-6 times a day sometimes.

I've actually found that bringing a megaminx to school is actually better. Most of the people i show it to can't even figure out how to turn it.

What is really funny is when people cant find out how to turn a skewb. They always try to turn the tips not knowing that its really a cut all the way around.
What REALLY annoys me is when people take the cube and think they can solve it then get mad.

I have brought every puzzle I have to school, and everytime it's the same thing: 1. Figure out how to turn it (with things like the skewb this takes a while) 2. Get mad 3. Scramble it and give it to me 4. I solve and they accuse me of cheating 5. Repeat

When ever I bring a cube to work someone will always ask "what's the trick?" thinking that there is a simple trick to solving it and that I'm going to show it to them. I then try to explain that it's more of a process that is done in steps and not a trick while I'm solving it in front of them but they typically lose interest as soon as they realize that it's not something they are going to learn from watching me do it once.

i really hate, even more than people trying to solve the 3x3, is people trying to solve the 2x2, because someone wouldn't give my 2x2 back for a whole day because he thought that it was "easy" with the 3x3 they give it back after only a few minutes.

2x2's are definitly worse than 3x3s. Everyone thinks it will be incredibly simple until they actually try it.

or when your friend brings a cube to school for you to solve, so you do, then he brags to EVERYONE that he solved it, but won't mess it up again

It is funny hearing all these stories as it takes me back. All of this was true and exactly the same 25+ years ago when I first learned how to do the cube in school.
Now I go to school and "do" the cube, the reaction from other people is quite different with me being a teacher rather than another student. The reaction is mostly positive. It is good to see so many students learning though; I teach lunchtime cube classes on a Thursday, so far I have taught about ten or twelve students, and a few have gone on to learn the 4x4x4 too. Many don't anticipate that it takes quite a bit of persistence and give up, some are frighteningly good and pick it up in no time!

Is there something wrong when later joiners want to share their experiences and talk like we did earlier? I'm sure the earlier joiners talked on the previous threads.

Most of the people at school are pretty cool about my cubes but there are always some idiots. One guy thought you could only turn a skewb ultimate through one plane. And of course you always get the U (scramble) U' (solution) 'gags' which are never funny. Actually I found some people cubing one lunch time, I didn't know anyone else that did. It was refreshing to talk to those who knew exactly what I meant by F2L and algorithm.

Repetitive threads, doubly annoying. I didn't realize this was a repetitive thread Pembo. I just first discovered this site about a month and a half ago and I have never seen a thread like this before.

Yeah there was a thread called "Cubing In Public" a few months back that talked about this. I don't mind repetitive threads, if they aren't ridiculous, but they really seem to irritate Pembo.

There is another thread, not just the "Cubing in Public" thread. Started by Toquinha1977; viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8397I am not blaming you for anything, I am just pointing out something that annoys me, just like you did.

I love reading threads like these, it's nice to share the experiences. I've never brought anything weird to my school, just regular cubes, but mostly my 5x5. Last thursday i was doing my 5x5, and i was really going off on it. I was doing a lot of moves really fast so i thought it would be obvious that i knew how to solve it, but this kid said "Has anyone actually ever done one of those things?" I just laughed and was like, i do it 5 times a day at least.
The thing with people turning it and saying they did it. OMG that gets irritating. Same for how people think the 2x2 is easy. I don't own a 2x2 but when people say it's easy, i do a corner permutation on the 3x3 and say "that's the last step on the 2x2" they always try and give up

Whenever I solve a cube for someone else I just do (U2 R2)*3 to swap some edges. So when they go " I solved it!" they look stupid.

Once I replaced my cube with fresh studio stickers from cubesmith and brought it to school the next day to play with, then my friends said, I bet you 10 bucks I can solve it, so I agreed and mixed the cube. When I got back my cube, each sticker was partially removed and placed back horribly with corners dug into itself. (You know what I mean.) I was pretty ticked off, but at the same time, amazed at how fast they did it.
I also hate it when people attempt to do a R2 U2 on my Rubik's Magic.

It ticks me off when people say they want to learn the "trick", when in fact it's an entire method. I'm no good a teacher either, and that doesn't help at all.
I hate people who tell me, "It's okay, I won't break it I'll be careful!" then explode the cube in a heartbeat.
What I REALLY hate would be them doing that, me assembling the cube, then solving it to find that I have parity, then them calling me a "cheater" for fixing it. Luckily, most people I've met when that happened understand the concept behind that problem.
I hate when my parents take pictures and I don't have time to get my cube out and pose:D

What I find really annoying is when people ask me if I figured out how to solve the cube on my own, so I tell them that I learnt how to solve it thanks to the internet, and then they say that is cheating and that I have no merit

I had to make up a corners first kind of thing till he'd say I didn't cheat.

The difference is, you can solve it in xx seconds. And you can't 'look' that up.

Bit off topic but you guys should try archaeology for a living if you want stupid remarks. Everyday on site I get-
Found any gold Mister? If you find any coins they're mine. Is this history then? Found any dinosaurs? What are you doing?

Found any gold Mister? If you find any coins they're mine. Is this history then? Found any dinosaurs? What are you doing? Yeah... Tony. That's pretty darn funny! Seriously though! Have you found any??? I read an article about a guy that found a huge gold nugget and it was wrapped around some tree roots! I will see if I can link it from wherever... HA HAHA ... I cannot believe I actually found some kind of link to this. But after reading this, I really did get a metal detector and found 25 cents at the playground in the park! I can consider myself a true treasure hunter now! http://www.prnewsnow.com/Public_Release ... 80819.html
