Wow, unbelievable. I'd love to see a working prototype!

Welcome to the forums by the way.

One of many I see. Welcome to the forums. I see you joined Nov. 26 and you are off to a flying start. It's clear you didn't start designing these yesterday. Care to introduce yourself? Looking at some of your designs it appears these are designed for injection molding. Is that correct?

And I LOVE this Circle Gear Cube design. Actually all the designs you've posted look very interesting. Keep up the great work.

Carl

I called it on the FTO thread! I knew there would be another awesome puzzle today! Keep it up!

My puzzles are designed for silicone casting, but I figured that would also work for injection molding.

If this puzzle were to be mass produces, I would buy it without question. I would really love to solve it. What I'm wandering about is if the inner circle turns with the outer 3x3 or not. To stay aligned with the outer mechanism, you'd need cuts out of the inner circle pieces that match up with the gears just like on the outside pieces. If it doesn't stay aligned with the outer 3x3 (probably due to a groove where the gears would touch), you could have the center pieces not turn, or you could make them turn independently like a circle cube.

the cube turns like a circle cube for the inner circle, and the mid-circle turns half the amount that the regular side turns.

I printed this one, and I still have not figured out how to assemble it. The gears keep falling out because they are so small. I have decided to make a new version with spindles for the gears, and have the gears have a gap between 2 of the teeth, so they can snap on. The version 1 is 58mm, and my new version will be 60 mm.
The gears have 7 teeth.

I can't wait to make v2 :D

Can I try to assemble the old one?

I meant assemble it and keep it assembled. The gears get out of place and jam up before I can complete 1 turn. I think that 9 teeth was too many, and too small of gears, as well for the puzzle to work.

How does that work? What are the numbers of teeth at the sun gear and at the annulus? One can only achieve 1:2 gearing if the sun and annulus have exactly the same number of teeth. However, your illustrations suggest that the sun is inside and has a smaller number of teeth.

I used slightly different sized teeth. The number of teeth is the same on the inside as the outside. 48 on each, and 9 teeth on the gears.

This is true if you stick to having only 1 set of "planet" gears. However if more than 1 set of planet gears are involved, there can be lots of different gearing ratios where the sun and annular gears have an angular speed of 1:2.
