There is a new puzzle from Lanlan called "Squished Skewb" which will be finished and begin selling on Sep.1st 2013. This kind of cube is designed by John Lin who is from Taiwan.
Following are some pictures for reference.

How would this be scramblable? Is it in a cube shape, or in the shape of a rhombic hexahedron?

It's a skewb shapemod. (In a shape like Oskar's squashed cube. Not sure what it's called)

Thank you John, for the photos of the scrambles and symmetries. Looks fun!

Is KPG-john the creator, John Lin?

Actually, it's on sale now. It's still the 28th, right?

I thought I was done with Skewb shape mods, but I might just get this one.

I'm sort of hoping for a mass-produced version of Dong's Skewb now...

Hey I thought it was a cubicals skewb with the cuts somehow unparallel.
Instead of cube that has been sqhished flat on two opposite corners.
Would what I had in mind initially work?

I assume it uses Mefferts / Tony Durham's Skewb mechanism but it's nice to see an original looking puzzle from this company.

So this is more difficult that a normal skewb because the centers have an orientation. It's a superskewb.

Yes, I am John Lin from Kaohsiung Taiwan, and KPG means Kaohsiung Puzzles Group.
Squished Skewb is a rhombohedron shape, and it’s inspired by Mr. Andreas Nortmann’s Squished cube here.

I had made some designs for LanLan around July 2010,
I don’t know why it took so looooooong to be mass produced.
But I am happy with the result, Hope you’ll enjoy this wild transformation in near future, thank you for all nice comments.

I ordered one of these from eachbyte.com August 29. It arrived today. It is much bigger than I expected. It is much squisheder than I expected too.

The packaging was a bit squished as well on a couple of the corners, but the puzzle was safe and secure inside. This is my second order from eachbyte, and each order has arrived in good condition.

The puzzle is wonderful. Since I already have several skewbish puzzles I did not hesitate to scramble it. I like the look and feel of this puzzle. Very nice, John Lin! I am looking forward to getting to know this puzzle well. :D

Mine has arrived today and I had to laugh a bit because it is so big.
I like it. :)
"Rhombohedron" is the correct description, I would say.

As I looked back at the pictures at the store, I think there is a size comparison between this goliath and a normal skewb, but I only realized that after I saw it for myself.

Would you say this is an accurate comparison?

Yes, that is the picture I was thinking of when I said,
Quote:

Once I saw them for myself in 3D on my desk, the picture made much more sense. The puzzles in the picture are each somewhat distorted, perhaps because there is no background, and no labels, and no concept of just how squished the squished one is.

A video would have been a better way to present it.

But inspite of being surprised by it, I like it. :D

Have you noticed my new avatar?
People may easier recognize me at DCD
I'm not so sure if the hint "Look out for the oldest chap at DCD!" would have worked on its own.

Back to the topic:

Here are some more size comparisons - the new arrival with its closer relatives:

Image

If you look carefully (you can enlarge the photo by clicking), you will find the name Tony Fisher on several puzzle. (The silver Golden Cube with original signatures from Tony and Uwe)
Seems that Tony is "Master Skewb".
(I'm sure, he has earned many master degrees in many puzzle disciplines.)
Tony Fisher wrote:

Actually, I hadn't perceived it as a size comparison.
As robertpauljr, I was surprised but I like it.

BTW, the signature of Andrew Cormier on the Master Skewb (the top one on the little tower of Master Skewbs) is almost unreadable by now. I hope he will be back eventually and send me a new yellow sticker.

The Squished Skewb certainly plays with the brain. It seems to be one of those things that never looks right in any photo. Kind of really badly photoshopped.

I don't know how to post photos here, but here is a link to a set of 4 photos showing my little Skewb Family of puzzles. They show better what to expect if you order a Squished Skewb.

[edited the link. It wasn't working so I edited the link. ???]

Here's my unboxing and demo of the Squished Cube- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_LdwkSmGr0 . The quality is extremely good. I was very surprised to see a normal sized skewb core inside. I will upload a disassembly a bit later.
