Kevin's thread about failures of solving (here) prompted a few calls for a similar thread for puzzle building.

I'll kick it off with my most mocking failure, Elemental:Chromium. Despite my last post mentioning I hadn't given up, I've certainly not had any real hope for it in the last few years.

Another permanent "on hold" puzzle is my Quadraminx. I took my hand cast Gigaminx (remember those?) and have it in a partially modified state. I'll have to post a few shameful pictures one of these days.

OK Tony and Jason, let's hear about a few of yours!

Dave

I once tried to make a Siamese cube, but I glued the wrong places and I got 2 cubes where only U and R faces turn...

I'm really bad. I tried to make a 1x2x3 and while I was sanding the pieces down, the hook snapped off. :?

I tried making a simple half-truncated cube from a Rubik's brand cube. I couldn't get the pieces to stay together while I was cutting them, and it got completely destroyed. It was about that time that I realized that I absolutely cannot mod puzzles.

Ha ha - Yes I thought about starting this thread myself. I'll have to take some pictures and post them later - I've got a pyraminx mod (lighthouse) that looks pretty bad although technically complete, an Evil Twin that fell apart, and a truncated 5x5x5 that I never finished. Also my prototype TIE cube that is also technically complete but looks terrible!

Not to mention all my old molds that tore and fell apart...

Several years ago I tried to make a Megaminx into a rhombic dodecahedron by cutting it down only. I'd spent ages trying to work it out but sometimes it's better to just give it a go. The cuts went just a little too deep though and I ended up destroying the Megaminx. I'll post a picture if I can find it.
