So I have recently finished my first mod the 2x4x4. Whether it is considered successful or not is for you to decide but I'm proud of what I've made!!!

PROCESS
So I'm not going to go in an in depth method but I'll explain the troubles I came across at each step.
1. First of all gluing the pieces I had absolutely no trouble with luckily but assembling it I found a tiny bit tricky as you had to then assemble the 2 layers together...
So knowing me, I glued the 2 internal pieces in not thinking, very stupid I know, it was like the 2x3x4 all over again
Luckily I had another 4x4 which I substituted the pieces for...

Another thing I did is I used a white cube to originally start with and when I then sprayed the puzzle black the core was left white and seeped through the center pieces, so many mistakes that I wont make again.

2. So my next problem was sanding, it was going well to start with then I realised on one side I shaved down quite a lot whilst the other was nowhere near, I found getting the pieces all the same size a struggle but with lots of random scrambling eventually pretty much got there

3. Okay so I was told a technique which was quite clever and saved time and money, when filling the pieces I filled quite alot with hot glue to help kill the dead space and reduce weight and stop me having to use as much milliput, as ingenious as it sounded at the time it led to more problems...

4.So carrying on I filled all my pieces absolutely fine and then went to use a hairdryer to help dry the epoxy quicker as Im impatient, I put it on the highest heat and to my amazement the hot glue started melting and then seeping through cracks in the epoxy and making air bubbles and everything was just so wrong. I rectified it by wiping any escaping glue then leaving it to air dry naturally and all seemed fine.

5. So now the sanding, it wasnt too hard but as I sanded I hit several points where i was sanding the hot glue in places and not the epoxy because I had added to much of it and too little epoxy, had to then refill the pieces and everything was taking longer than necessary

6. So once everything was dry I sprayed it with no problems and still having my white core.. The stickering was quite hard and Ill go into more detail now :)
The sides were obviously very easy because they required no stencils or anything, simple stickering yet I still couldnt manage to put them on straight
Okay so my approach for the yellow side was make a template, draw on the back on the vinyl around the template and cut, very time consuming and I still managed to cock that up aswell
My aunt luckily did the white side for me which turned out a lot better, she worked out measurements, drew lines in those measurements with each sticker sharing a line so it was easy to cut out, she then cut them out square then rounded off the corners
She did a very good job, alot better than my attempt and she took 30min I took an hour

So I really enjoyed the experience and its the 3x5x5 Ill be making next, this took quite a while to write so any reflections or feedback you have would be appreciated :)
