I solved my bauhinia dodecahedron and scrambled it again. Now, it is driving insane. I have the whole top half solved, but for three days, I have tried to solve the edges that are circled on the image and nothing I try works! I think this should be an easy fix because solving edges is just like solving a dino dodecahedron. Any guidance would be appreciated.

You've solved into the mirror color scheme. The permutation parity of the edges is always even but the mirror color scheme requires an odd permutation as you can see in your photo.

What is an odd permutation, and how can I use one to solve my problem?

You can't perform an odd permutation.

Hold it up to a mirror and take a picture of the puzzle in the mirror. Then solve it to that color scheme. The one you're trying to solve to is unsolvable.

I want to learn from this...
If this scheme is unsolvable, then how did my puzzle get to be in this state?
How does the mirror thing work? It all seem kind of weird to me.

The puzzle is still solvable. It's just backwards.

When you got it, three of the colors - let's call them A, B, and C, since I can't see all the sides in that picture - were in clockwise order around a corner.

A
BC

After scrambling, you put them in this order:

A
CB

Counterclockwise around a corner. If you do this, you can't solve the puzzle because of the situation you ran into.

So, on the back of the puzzle, pick a set of any three solved edges, and memorize the counterclockwise order of the colors. Then re-start the solve by putting them in clockwise order instead. You should be able to finish from there.

(Disclaimer: I don't have one of these yet! But a similar situation can happen on the Rex Cube and face-turning Starminx, which I do have. The easiest way to avoid doing it is to memorize three colors in clockwise order.)

You've basically started solving the puzzle in the wrong parity (mirror image), which means that the rest of the puzzle can't be solved.

It's a bit like putting a glove/mitten on the wrong hand - you may get 4 fingers in OK, but then your thumb will be on the wrong side!

So you have to take your hand out the glove (re-scramble the puzzle) and put it back in the right way (solve to get the mirror image).

I hope that makes sense.

Or had she cleverly found a way of visiting the 4th dimension and turned it around and then forgot to turn it back again?

Just try explaining THAT to a three year old
