So, long story short, I saw the oh cube, and thought of other similar concepts. (I just assembled a 3x3x3 into these states)

This is an Edge turning Oh cube. It would be interesting to see if it still jumbles. I think solving wise it would be not more different from a curvy copter.

This is a corner turning Oh cube. I think solving wise it is fairly simple...

Deeper cut corner turning oh cube.

Image

Deeper cut edge turning Oh. Again, if it jumbles it would be surprising...

This puzzle would be similar to a master skewb solving wise.

So, what do you think?

The movement would be blocked in most of these puzzles (except for maybe the second) - unless you could pull the different groups out from the puzzle before turning...

if we made the pieces curved and not cubic, it seems to me that it would work.

No, the groups can only rotate if they protrude from the rest of the puzzle. Take a look at the first picture, and how the lone blue square would be blocked by the neighbouring green face, even if the puzzle was pillowed or completely spherical. Otherwise, you have to make the cuts curved, but then you've got the helicopter cube which already exists and looks nothing like a 3x3x3, so no "Oh" factor. :(

But I think the idea could work in your second picture. :)

What I meant was to have curves that extend out to the surface of the cube. It would look less like a 3x3x3, but to a layman, the 'Oh' is still there.

Hmm, then you would have to call it an "Oh Dear" Cube.

Good one...

Could someone sketch up a model to see if it jumbles?

My CAD skills are abysmal...

Ok, lets look at these a little bit.
Edge turning: curvy copter without triangle pieces. rather trivial.

Corner Turning: Dino cube with visible centers. A.K.A. compy cube or Redi cube

Deeper cut corner: i think you end up with a master skewb with no (face) centers or face edges, but im not sure.

deeper edge: i think this is a master heli with less pieces, and looks like the most interesting out of the bunch.

Im surprised how these can be simplified.

Although if we could make a physical version of these, it would be rather interesting.

You really shouldn't be surprised about this fact, since these are essentially shape mods. if you were going to design one of these, you would start with the simplest puzzle that has all the pieces required and hide them/shell them. The problem with most of these is that it would be nearly impossible to make them turn, because if the cubic shape of the pieces.

Exactly, that's what I was trying to say.
