I thought for sure this was a thesis on why questions are the hardest to answer but instead it's a non-sequitur question about the Flintstones

A car doesn't actually need a clutch, a torque converter serves basically the same purpose. Instead of disengaging the engine from the wheels you waste a bunch of energy as heat in the torque converter fluid.
