I was looking at North Face laptop backpacks and they don't have anything less than $80, and their good ones are $100+ (probably 50% of that is just buying the name but I saw similar prices elsewhere). I want one that will make my laptop survive a one-story drop. I don't plan on actually dropping it from there but I want that peace of mind. I know a backpack like that might not even exist so I'm also open to laptop carriers. I don't want to pay more than $40-60 but I might be willing to pay more if you can really convince me why it's a good decision. I've never gotten a laptop case before so I have no idea how much I should be paying.

Sounds like you need one of those metal suitcase like thingies with the padding in them.

Like that.. the only downside is.. it's pink, but it is REALLY cheap right now!

Not a backpack, but at least a shoulder strap, you can flip it over your head.

Do you ever actually post on twisty related topics? Every time a completely wacky and non forum related topic turns up in the "active topics" list then its always you! Your profile shows that you have almost never actually posted on twisty related subjects!

As a reminder, we have had people in the past join the forum and only post in Off-Topic. We also questioned their desire to be on TP. If you find you are posting (Not directed at you murderouslyrics-but anyone in general) then you might want to reconsider your reasons for being here. We're a great bunch and have a wealth of information on the topic of puzzles. Other stuff? Not so much, or maybe I should say we don't care about it so much.

I'm using a common backpack.
But it has a separatable urethane package for the mobile PC in the main cargo-room.
I bought it about $60, about ten years ago.
($6 per year? LOL!)

I recommend to buy a good one even if it is a little expensive.

Hmm though that statement DOES indeed count for bags *giggle*.. buy a good proper sturdy one, that will last you years!
