I thought I would start an art gallery here, with artwork created from, or inspired by Rubik's Cubes. Please post any other good (child-friendly!) artwork you find here...

Here's a mosaic project I took part in in Nov. 2011. The following pictures kind of captured the process to make it.

First, Pete Fecteau designed the picture. He's the author of several mosaics in the first post.

Then the whole picture was broken down to 3x3 patterns.

Then, we made turn cubes into the patterns.

Finally, we took some pictures before the mosaic was disassembled.

One of your images would not normally be considered child friendly but in our upside down world I am sure it's ok since it is well known art instead of not so well known art. (An attack on our society not Admin)

A really old copy of PaintShop Pro (3.0?). You could reduce the bit depth of an image and at 8 bit it went to using a palette.
It allowed you to define your own palettes, and then load a palette for an image and choose the method of conversion. Their dithering function was pretty good.
To define reduced color palettes I would define most of the 256 colors identical (e.g. white) then just the last few different colors. For most of my work I used a seven color palette based on the awful six colors of those cubes plus the white I restickered.

And here's me thinking it was all done by the eye - real art - not some computer algorithm. I should have known better given the logical focus of this forum.

Over the past month on the waterfront in Macao there was a cubic mosaic. 80,000 cubes were twisted to make this happen. Sadly I have been too busy to get down there so I asked permission to post. All photos have all been borrowed with permission from the photographer. I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks. I am not sure why we only saw this recently, it was posted months ago. I suppose Chrome only recently was updated to check for this site?

The potentially dangerous link has been removed so Chrome should not complain anymore.

[Edit: It seems to request a Google review of the site to clear this warning the site owner has to demonstrate ownership and request it. Although an Admin, I don't have such powers and we will have to wait for Sandy to return from vacation to address this.]
