I had NO IDEA that it was possible to get 20 seconds on a 3x3 using a half-layer-by-layer half-Fridrich method.

I made my personal best single and average simultaneously! First EVER sub-20 average! (EDIT: clarification, my first sub-20 average) (Single: 00:15.99, 3 of 5: 00:19.11) Times are in this thread. I used the advice for look-ahead found in this thread. Anyone who needs help with look-ahead, this advice really does work.

Learned to solve the helicopter cube without jumbling.

Maybe most of you have done it.......... solve pyraminx without instructions&other people's help.It takes me 1.5Hrs to make my first solve..........you may guessed it..........LBL :LOL: then,SUB60.now I'm still useing my OWN method, AVG19 AND PB946.I think i"ll make it to SUB13 until get help from others....

I've solved my Tuttminx a few times now without watching a tutorial or reading any solution guide (I don't think there are any). I created quite a few algorithms for this puzzle on my own (mainly for cycling edges on hexagonal and pentagonal faces). I'm surprised at how satisfying and rewarding it was to develop my own solution, though it did take many hours.

After 2 months of trying, I finaly solved the pyraminx crystal.

I solved my Starminx (Face Turning). It is safe to say this is my greatest puzzling achievement so far and I learned so much from the process. I knew that the Starminx edges should be solved using the methods for the Pyraminx Crystal, but due to a quirk of shipping from China, I had my Starminx for a week before I finally received my Pyraminx Crystal (and experienced a huge "AHA!" moment). I learned that when fellow members of the TP forums say that you should be able to solve a certain puzzle as a prerequisite for another, it is a very strong hint that you should get and solve the prerequisite puzzle .

I learned that I can successfully create my own algorithms for a puzzle, but that I still require an example to get me started. The GelatinBrain puzzle simulator is incredibly useful and well worth the effort to get it running and adapt to the notation. I still can't use it for puzzles that I haven't physically manipulated.

Setup moves are useful on the Gigaminx, Tuttminx and Dayan Gem III, but the Starminx must surely be the queen of setup moves! I learned that looking at the Starminx to undo setup moves is pure folly. I write them down.

To solve the 60 star points (AKA "tips") requires approximately 40 applications of commutator algorithms and associated setup moves. On other puzzles, an R when you should have R' results in having to fix a few faces or pair up some broken edges. On the Starminx it most often means "start over". It is a very demanding puzzle. And I thoroughly enjoy it !

Finally! My first sub 10 3x3x3 average of five, being 9.64 seconds.

Times: 8.74, 9.04, 12.26, 11.14, 8.51.

I am so glad I have finally managed to do this, it has been one of the hardest accomplishments to get in cubing for me.

I just solved the 3-layer, 5-layer, and Crazy Planet Uranus Pentahedron Puzzles. Uranus was quite fun to figure out.

I also bought the "Crazy 5-layer" one that isn't a planet but it turns out that it is equivalent to the "Saturn" variant with two extra layers. I hate bandaged / broken symmetry puzzles. I need to take it apart and figure out if I can unbandage it...

EDIT: It seems MF8+Dayan have done us all a favor The piece that determines the bandaging is dual purpose. If you flip it backwards it unbandages. I don't know if Dayan+MF8 did this to be nice to their customers or they did it to cut down on manufacturing / mold costs but I'm VERY PLEASED. I'm going to turn my crazy 5-layer into an unbandaged puzzle and solve it now.

Got a 7x7x7 V in the mail a few weeks ago. Took it apart and carefully sanded it with 1000-grit sandpaper. Lubricated with silicon spray and reassembled it. Solved it (2:19:00). Need to speed up the face algorithm for the last two sides. There seems to be several ways of doing this.

This should shed another 5 minutes. (Maybe I should split out the faces, edges and the final 3x3x3 solve.)

[edit May 15, 2012]: Got a SS 7x7x7 in the mail a few days ago. Sent it through Bon Ami grit, Tripoli powder, and now have it reassembled. Been practicing especially getting centers. Got first 7x7x7 solve under 30 minutes (target is 10 minutes). Got first 3x3x3 under 3 minutes; can smell under 2 minutes (currently around 2:20, my target is 30 seconds).

[edit May 16, 2012]: First 7x7x7 solve under 20 minutes (19:39.68). I'm moving my target to 7 minutes.

[edit June 1, 2012]: First 5x5x5 solve under 5 minutes (4:58.73), was fairly lucky. My 7x7x7 best time now down to 15:10.41. I'm now upgraded to an F2L beginner (eagle alligator tiger and then inefficient edge permute, edge orientation, corner permute and corner orientation. My best time for the 3x3x3 cube is now 1:21.13 with averages around 2 minutes. So I'm making steady progress.

Worked out a solution to 3x3 Crazy Jupiter and finally solved it .

Finally after 3 weeks of effort, I have solved all 8 of the crazy 3x3 plus planets!

Most I can do with 2 different approaches (reduction and CC last), one in 3 ways!!
The Saturn was amazingly tough - it nearly killed me but I can do it fairly easily by reduction to a 3x3 domino cube! Although those top layer edges still take some time as I am avoiding learning a special parity algorithm for it.

My favourite is the Neptune.

What a fantastic series - now waiting for my mixup cubes to arrive! (whilst waiting I solved an axis cube - it only took 10 minutes so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with it).

I have been warned that if a petaminx arrives in the post then it will be used as an instrument of my murder!

I was finally able to solve my xmas gifts. 6 puzzles over 6 days. Megaminx, Dino cube, and Dino minx weren't hard at all, but I also solved a Helicopter minx, Dayan Gem III (concept 11) and the Master Kilominx. All 6 without looking up any how to's or guides. Now that they're solved, I'm gonna look up the guides and see how inefficient my methods were.

I've had the last two weeks off due to the holidays. I've managed to solve a ton of puzzles using my own methods during this time. I must have crossed some threshold because I've suddenly become a LOT better at solving puzzles recently. Here's what I solved:

- Entire Pentahedron planet series [used pieces from Uranus and 3-layer standard to make them all]
- Hidetoshi Cube
- Fused Cube
- Siamese Cube
- Big Block Cube
- Skewb
- Skewb Ultimate
- Vulcano
- Helicopter Dodecahedron

The Pentahedrons were especially fun. Saturn taught me how to manipulate the big circle corners. Venus required some additional work for the middle layer. Pretty much everything else reduced to variations on those techniques + sequences from the 3-layer standard.

I'm almost out of puzzles that need solving. Luckily I've got a ton of puzzles on the way, including some camouflage cubes and Luke's Hexoid [my first Shapeways puzzle!]. In the mean time, I'm going to start on the Crazy 3x3x3 planet series now that I've gotten over my fear of bandaging puzzles. I can't wait!

Finally learned how to solve the Master Skewb I've had for a year. I'd solved it once before with a tutorial, just so it wouldn't be sitting there scrambled, but now I actually know the algorithms and have a strategy.

I learned Jake Rueth's solution from his blog here, which starts with the skewb pieces and then uses pure commutators for the edges and t-centers. I'd like to post my full solution based on his algorithms, but my diagrams are heavily based on his and I'd like to get his permission. Does anyone happen to know if he's active on the TwistyPuzzles forum?

It has taken me over a week but I've finally solved my 3x5x7 cuboid! It is awesome! THE hardest cuboid I've ever played with.

The only issue is it keeps dropping huge amounts of powder! I've dismantled it and emptying the powder out of the pieces now - done only 8 pieces and have a massive pile of powder; this is going to take forever and be very messy! My wife is not happy!

Can't wait to be able to solve it again! If I can?

I solved my Radiolarian 3 face-turning icosahedron. The pictures show just five of the 20 faces of this awesome puzzle.

It was nice to have Gelatin Brain 2.1.2 to help develop algorithms. The physical puzzle has 20 colours to the simulator's 10, so it is a bit harder. There is plenty to do on the Radiolarian 3 as each piece type requires a different strategy. The solve remained interesting throughout with the challenge of finding and moving pieces scattered across 20 faces. It was a lengthy solve, mainly due to the 60 corner points that I was generally only able to insert one at a time. The relatively shallow cuts make setup moves fairly easy to undo, but I learned the hard way to not rely entirely on visually undoing some of the more tricky setups. I started writing them down and had no further difficulty.

I didn't jumble the puzzle for this solve. I don't know what to make of the jumbling on the Radiolarian 3. It seems it could be used to cycle 3 corners, but the regular algorithm to do this is very simple. Of course, it could just add to the fun of the solve. I'm going to have another look at it.

Unbelievable! I look forward to your video tutorial for it! Maybe it will convince me that I should get one.
