Hey, I posted a few days ago that I wanted to get into printing puzzles. We'll I just came up with my first design! (it's very simple and not impressive) It's called the "EighteenCube" (it's made of 18 pieces minus the center caps) It will be a very simply, shallow cut puzzle. It has a simple core (the pictures really say it all) The two halves of the core fit together, one has a male end and the other a female end. There will be a hole in the center for a screw (possibly will make it screw-spring structure) The only question I have: I made all my pieces to fit together using the exact same diameters for the male and female part. Is this to tight? Should I go back and make it a slightly looser fit? Thanks!!

Wow, I had no idea someone has thought of this too. I thought of this independently, but it's obvious that the mechanism would be the same. I'll probably print this for myself and a friend, but I don't want to upset the original designer by selling it. At least one difference is that the one I designed is closer to being cubic . I should make it a perfect cube and call it "Cubic Master Quartet"

Make the core a 2x2x2. That would add minimal changes yet make it a brand new puzzle. Don't waste your money prototyping an old puzzle unless you really like the design.
