Just one thing I don't get... As with the Crazy Plus 3x3x3's which came out before any mass produced normal Circle 3x3x3 why are these being mass produced before there is even a mass produced normal Mixup Cube? Is the issue in getting approval to make them? Oskar I believe coined the name Mixup Cube but Sergey Makarov patented the idea back in 1985. Not sure what his name for the idea was. I tend to doubt his patent would still be valid and I don't believe anyone has been able to establish contact with him lately. So I think the place to start, if I were to be mass producing a Mixup Cube, would be to contact Oskar.
Don't get me wrong... I like these puzzles. I'd just like to get a normal mass produced Mixup Cube first.
Carl

Drake wrote: Cool , I like the Wormhole cube . I can't pull up YouTube at work so I just pulled up this video on my phone. COOL!!!! I really like this one. It also just dawned on me what this puzzle is. Back in the Analysis of twistability and virtual pieces thread, Bram proposed an idea he called the 'double cube' which I then went on to make several renders of in POV-Ray at the time. Bram's idea had the inner slice layer independantly turnable. By that I mean the core of his idea was a 3x3x3. I'm not certain from the video but I'm guessing the Wormhole cube has its 3x3x3 core bandaged into a Fused Cube with the outer slice layers added on. Ok... just watched the video again. Yes, I'm now sure the core of this puzzle is the Fuzed Cube with external slice layers added on just as they would be in the 'double cube'. I also noticed that I don't think it would be possible to take this and turn it into a 'double cube' as there appears to be no way to grip the inner slice layer to turn it by itself. Still I really like this one. It will go great with my Bandaged WitTwo Magic Cube which is a Fused Cube inside a 2x2x2. This Wormhole cube is a Fused Cube inside a 3x3x3. Carl P.S. Are the face centers of the inner Fused Cube solvable on this puzzle? They aren't viewable when the puzzle is in its doctrinaire position but they should be viewable midturn on a slice layer turn. They go by so fast in the video I can't tell if they are colored or stickered.

Nice. Though I don't find the proportions of the cuts too aesthetically pleasing... though I might buy one sometime. I was going to be confused with the Wormhole Cube but Carl confirmed my suspections of that being a fused cube inside with his post

Will an "unbandaged" 4-layer version (with split edges) be made?

It just hit me this morning, but the core of the puzzle is the same as the regular mixup cube. I'm tempted to get one and to just design new corners, edges, and face centers in Shapeways and that way I could have a half mass-produced mixup cube. I don't think I could sell it though as Oskar has dibs on the Mixup Cube. I might also be able to make a better Thorny Cube again re-using this core. Has anyone mixed Shapeways parts and mass-produced parts in the same puzzle before (aside from just extensions)? Carl

I just took some of the parts from my Hexaminx and put them on a standard Megaminx (and visa versa) and it works no problem. I don't know about any long term problems, like wear and tear, but both puzzles still turn really smooth.

Carl I'm pretty sure Oskar sells alternative parts for the mass-produced Treasure Chest.

I have to say that I am really looking forward to this set! I have been really impressed with the incredible quality and smoothness of the Witeden cubic cuboids and the super cubes. For such unbelievably complex structures they are amazingly stable and move really well. When the whole set are available I plan on getting a good few of them at once. If anyone has played with them yet then a proper review would be greatly appreciated.

A question... I know the Wormhole Cube comes with this core made of colored plastic. .jpg) Is this the same core I'd find in the Mixup Plus cube? Or are these pieces just one solid color there? Thanks, Carl

See the 2x2 core being used below, 2x2 in 6-Clear-Color Cube for Speed Cubing http://www.hknowstore.com/item.aspx?loc ... e4b3699036

Hi Friends,
I viewed some videos about the wormhole cube. I don't know how the inner edges move. Perhaps like a 4x4x4 ball-core ? Can someone tell me about the difficulty about the wormhole and mixup plus ? They look great. Is there a simulator ?
Cheers, Andrea

Hi Andrea, I don't have one, but my guess is that the edges inside the holes on the `Wormhole 1`act like a Fuse Cube and the outer cube is a 3x3x3, I don't think the external part is a Mixup3x3, but I could be wrong. It looks like the `Wormhole 2` is partially a Mixup. I'd appreciate knowing the full answers on those things too. Cheers, Burgo.

Hi Burgo, thanks for your answer. I agree to you, that the inner edges move perhaps like a fuse (bandaged) cube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrvHbq-jIzw&feature=channel&list=ULbut I cannot see in which way inner edges can move in relation to the outer corners. In the video the yellow/blue/orange corner is fix to the adjacent inner edges. But I don't understand in which way the other pieces move. Michael, the owner from the videeo said, that the wormhole cube is difficult. I believe it, too. Cheers, Andrea

Hi Andrea. I have the Wormhole cube, but I haven't tried to solve it as I've been working on the Mixup Plus for almost two weeks! The Wormhole cube has a six-colour ball inside. Pieces of the ball are controlled by different corners. I think that learning which pieces of the inner ball are controlled by a certain corner is part of the puzzle. The gentleman who made the video disassembled his puzzle to find out . The middle edges do not move the inner ball. The Wormhole can only be turned 90° like a standard 3x3, so while it looks like the Mixup Plus, it doesn't move the same way. To see the ball pieces clearly takes strong light as they are viewed down a little tunnel in the edge. The Wormhole cube reminds me of a Circle Cube, because the ball turns with the face. Both the Mixup Plus and Wormhole cubes turn very well! They are smooth and fast. They are a little bigger than a standard 3x3.

What about the difficulty. Which is harder ? Is the wormhole 1 harder than a crazy- cube ?

The Mixup Plus is more difficult than the Wormhole I. The Wormhole I can be a little tricky at first but after you figure it out it's not too hard at all. They are both worth getting though especially the Mixup Plus. I still feel the Crazy Cubes are more challenging than the Mixup Plus but the Mixup is still quite a solve in its own right.

Andrea wrote: Thanks 77mouser, I'm curious and ordered both and the TomZ 446 You cannot go wrong with the 4x4x6! It's a great puzzle and I have found several different approaches to it. Turn carefully at first - it can pop easily and if you aren't careful it can explode! You really don't want that as there are a LOT of internal small floating pieces which are easy to lose. I had to get more from Calvin! Once broken in, it turns beautifully. I'm waiting for the other size mixup sizes to be available and then I'll get the set.

Hi friends, the wormhole cube is a nice puzzle. It turns smooth. It's not to hard, but tricky. The inner core is like a fuse cube. One corner is fix to the inner edges. It makes fun to solve it. Perhaps it's difficult like a crazy cube neptune but different. I like this puzzle.
[spoiler] Solve it with reduction method. Pair inner edges with outer corners. Take care that the fix corner doesn't touch your sequences. Use 3x3x2 cube sequences to permute inner edges and outer corners in last layer. Last step: permute outer edges with slice comutators and conjugators
[spoiler]
Cheers, Andrea

No, but you can remove the stickers from the egde spacers and pretend they're not there. If you bandage the edges then you've got a 3x3x3 with an overly complex mech.

Last weekend I received my 3x3x3 Mixup Plus. It is a very nice puzzle, turns smoothly and the challenge is just right, not easy not too hard. Today, I have ordered the Wormhole I. Can anybody tell me the difference between Wormhole I and II?

The Wormhole II is this puzzle. 4 of the 3x3x3 edges have been replaced with parts from the Mixup Plus puzzle. So if you have the Mixup Plus and get a Wormhole I you should be able to make your own Wormhole II puzzle if you want to just by exchanging parts. Carl

I received my 4x4 Mixup Plus! This puzzle turns very, very well. I am thoroughly impressed with the consistently good quality of WitEden's mechanisms. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was surprised to see that the centres are split into four pieces ( and now I see the updated photos at the top of this thread ). There are also differences in the way the E and M layers move in comparison to the 3x3 Mixup Plus, but that is all I will say. Now I am seriously considering the other two variants, the 3x3x4 and the 4x4x3. Attachment:

I don't know how but these puzzles somehow slipped through the cracks and I'm just now understanding them. The basic mixup plus is my mixup cube design but with the 24 hidden parts exposed correct? Now I'm kinda bummed I didn't finish my prototype of this last year. Anyway the puzzle is a cube transformation of my mixup octahedron which is pretty cool.
