I made this question 5 years ago in this forum, but now after hundreds of new puzzles I do it again

Now this is not going to be a good answer since I still don't have much puzzles, but I will have to go with the Rubik's 360. Now this is only because I take forever to tilt those balls through the holes!

1x1. Enough said.
But seriously, I HATE instant insanity 2. The only puzzle I have never figured out.

alacoume wrote: Burr cube ? The most tedious : the FT Starminx Good choice, the Wall4 was tricky! Did you do the Wall5 also? I agree, the FT Starminx is definately a tough Mass Produced puzzle. But for me, the Uranus Tetrahedron wins easily. The Neptune Tetrahedron was hard too. The most enjoyable difficult puzzles to solve would be the Earth and Saturn 3x3s. I think the square1 still deserves a mention. Cheers, Burgo.

I think the hardest puzzle I own is the Quirky Cube. I haven't solved it to this day. Square-1s in general are extremely difficult.

The Pasa Doble is probably extremely difficult.

I see Grigr can only think about His puzzles (or almost).
I will do the same:
I think there are sticker mods what are extremely difficult to solve. And also If you have a difficult puzzle with it you can make it even harder. For example: 5x5x5: relatively easy to solve. for me (4 min) 5x5x5 with Escher design (fish, Lizard...): really hard to solve (just tried once it took me 3 hours) 5x5x5 with Maze pattern: Extremely hard to solve. (never want to scramble mine...)
But you can make the same with all kind of puzzle. Just imagine a Master Brilic with Earth stickers...

Based on what I know the hardest puzzle which has actually been made is the Gear Minx. I'm unaware of anyone which has scrambled and solved it. The hardest puzzle which I'm aware of which has been solved (though it hasn't been built in physical form) is the Super-Complex 3x3x3. You can see the post about the solve here. Carl

I vote for the maze cube or a variation called "snake cube", assuming that the solver doesn't know the final state. I bought a "snake cube" from a local store. But it came scrambled. I had no idea how to solve it before I found the "solved state" online.

Just thinking about trying to solve Arrow Planet gives me nightmares.

cubervietnam wrote: How about the professor ghost cube Usually shape mods are not easy to solve, but still not too hard. Grigr: You can all say any puzzle what you want, I can make it may much harder just with some custom stickers. But if we are only talking about non sticker mods, probably the most difficult puzzles are the ones that jumble. for example Greg's HelimateOlivér

I think to make sense of this conversation we need to make the "distinction" between Mass Produced, Custom Mods, Shapeways and Hypothetical or Simulator puzzles (which are all valid but will have different responses).
I just assumed it was going to be about mass produced puzzles because otherwise it will be a more limited conversation (there are not many with the capacity to have considerable Shapeways or Custom Modded collections in which they can legitimately cross compare those puzzles). Which are the hardest Mass Produced Puzzles? How do the Gem4, 3x4x5, Master Skewb, Witeden Super 3x3 or Bicube rank, I think they are all hard too.
Like Oliver says, certain sticker mods can make cubes more difficult to solve, but that mostly comes under `Custom Mods`. Other added difficulties come from different types of bandaging and blocked moves. What type of bandaging do people think is harder.. Crazy Circle Puzzles, Bermudas, External Bandaging or Jumbling?
The other thing we need to distinguish between is whether we are talking about `actually solving the puzzle` or `looking up a method and remembering it`, because those are very different things and will have different answers.
Cheers, Burgo.

Of the mass-produced puzzles, the Ten Billion Barrel can be pretty difficult. In terms of turning difficulties and also being mass-produced, the Alexander's Star is in the top ten for me.

Latch cube. Took me forvever, even with a guide. I would also mention the square 2.

Yes, the latch cube is worth a mention, I really enjoyed it, it took a lot of solving knowledge and invention on the fly. The square 2: I thought I would be solving it with my SuperSquare1-Barrel method, but I found reducing it to a Square 1 easier. The Ten Billion Barrel is a weird twisty puzzle: in the sense that `it was designed with the solution in mind`.. so it was designed to solve (I think that's weird, most twisty puzzles aren't like that, the solution is a bit more like a cast puzzle in that sense). I bought it because it was claimed to be one of the hardest twistypuzzles, but when you begin to see the rotation of beads from a simple sequence the solution becomes obvious. It's a laborious (and noisy) solve.
