Hello this is my latest puzzle, the Latch Megaminx. Here is a link to the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNIE-mK4084&feature=youtu.beI will be selling this puzzle on ebay but probably not in my shop because of the difficulty of assembling the puzzle. Please feel free to ask questions. Enjoy!

The horror...
Excellent build though. Was it fairly straightforward to translate the latch cube design to a dodecahedron?

I believe I have the distinction of being the first person to solve the Okamoto's Latch Cube... I can't imagine solving this! But congratulations on the build.
Can you explain why some sides have three arrows and others two? Is there a pattern?

Can you explain why some sides have three arrows and others two? Is there a pattern? my guess is because there are 30 edges on a dodecahedron, and 12 faces... unless you had some unlatched edges, you'd have to put more than two on some faces... and the video describes at least some of the pattern... I'd still be interested in seeing it on shape ways... more than willing to take my hand at assembling it...

Yeah. It's just not obvious to me what the best pattern would be. The more symmetric, the better... symmetry is the only thing that makes the Latch Cube solvable at all. Once you get the right type of piece in each slot, you can start to build some transforms that you can use from 6 different orientations. Less than a regular cube's 48 (counting mirror images), but it's something.
Naively I'd have thought maybe just two latch edges per face, with some unlatched.

yea I just wanted every edge to have a latch and thats the closest way to have them evenly distributed. I explain in the video that on every face with 3 arrows the opposite face has 2 and every clockwise face has a counter clockwise face opposite it.

I explain in the video that on every face with 3 arrows the opposite face has 2 and every clockwise face has a counter clockwise face opposite it. That makes sense. But is there an overall pattern to how the 2s and 3s are distributed? Are there the same number of clockwise / counterclockwise arrows? Are there any global puzzle rotations that preserve the pattern?

Yea I didn't notice until you mentioned it but if you swapped the purple and pink sides one half of the puzzle would be 2 arrows and the other half would be 3. so if you rotated the whole puzzle on the axis between the purple and pink sides the puzzle would keep the distribution between sides with 2 arrows and sides with 3. but the arrangements of the arrows on each of the faces would move.

Beautiful puzzle. I can't imagine solving this would be trivial. Well done!

The next should be Latch Pyraminx, shouldn't be?
Will somebody create it?

I like the Latch cube very much because it just change a little in mechanism but occur a very big difference while solving! I think you did a very same job! Amazing ideas!

I love latch cubes. I will buy. Next: latch 5x5 or pyraminx. Really nice sticker job.

Awesome idea.
I have to ask my standard questions: Edge length? Weight?
Note to myself: There are 15 clockwise arrows and 15 anti-clockwise arrows.
EDIT: corrected spelling mistake

Wow, that is amazing! That looks incredibly hard to solve!
