So I've done some research and came across Windows 8. The thing that I'm curious about is if anyone here knows about it. And before you say it's fake, it is downloadable on microsoft's website. I am still trying to install it so wish me luck!

My college roommate has a programmer design preview of it. It is pretty neat. Appears to be geared mostly toward tablets and touch screens in its interface. I haven't really used Windows 7 (Macintosh fellow), nor have I studied Windows 8 so I cannot really compare them. I believe it is still a work in progress so be sure to back your stuff up.

Well, I have problems but they aren't that big of problems to revert back. And I noticed that Solidworks is MUCH faster now and I am very impressed! Now I'm thinking "What will the completed version be like?" But still, I will give this OS in progress an 8/10 just because I think it deserves that!

One potential issue could be compatibility. Some older games require "hoops" to jump thru in order to run on Windows 7, and 8 could make the process harder or impossible. I'll be sticking with 7 since operating systems from Microsoft after a decent one don't exactly have a good track record. After Win 98 came ME, and after XP was the quickly dumped Vista.

I have heard several times that Win8 is terrible, and the interface is unwieldy.
I see no reason to switch, and to be quite frank, there are no additional benefits to 8 over 7 that I have seen, all things included.

Seriously though, Windows 8 is supposed to be awesome on tablets, a pain in the bum on anything without a touchscreen and a nightmare for anyone who doesn't want to use it, thanks to their insistence on OEMs shipping with secure-boot. This prevents install of other operating systems. It is a sneak attack on people who refuse to buy their software, that they are promoting as a way to prevent attacks. Perhaps if they didn't ship an OS that is more full of holes than a rusty sieve... Extremely underhand.

From what I've heard, Windows 8 (as has been stated) is designed mainly for touchscreens. It's actually largely based around the Zune and WP7 interface. I have a Samsung Focus which runs on WP7 and I absolutely LOVE it but I can't see myself using that kind of interface on a normal desktop or laptop computer. It doesn't seem as convenient as Windows 7 (or similar OS).
