At 2:50 of Phil Collins' excellent song "Land of Confusion",

I don't have any pictures, but a few days ago there was a story in the USA Today paper that was about the 1980s, and the central picture for the article? None other than our beloved Rubik's Cube.

The T.V. show Outsourced (NBC) showed one of the characters playing with a 3x3 last night, but it looked suspicously like a wooden 30th anniversary cube...

There is an animated RBC ad on YouTube featuring a Rubik's cube that magically turns into a "house" 3x3x4 cube. Attached are 4 frames of the animation.

EDIT: I clicked on the link and there is a better/bigger image on their website.

From Senor Gif, an Alexander's Star animation.
The comments are sadly incorrect, but someone gets it right eventually.

Because I follow the competitive Starcraft 2 scene about as avidly I do the Twistypuzzle one, this video of perhaps the two best nonkorean professionals battling it out in games other than Starcraft made me laugh. Layers and layers of nerd humor going on.

I just saw the movie Super 8, and though it was set in the 1970s, the kids knew what a Rubik's Cube was (One of the kids mentions that something looks like some messed up rubik's cube). The rubik's cube didn't become widely available until 1980. Said Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams, "Oops."

I noticed the same thing. However the film was set in the early summer of 1979 so the kids "could" have known.

Hello,

I was checking out eBay for puzzles when I saw an auction with a manga toy that looked like a Rubik's Cube. After a little bit of searching, I found the following video featuring "Cubeman" (a character in the Kinnikuman manga, no relation with Mark Longridge). I am not a fan of manga or fighting video games, but I thought this video was interesting, particularly the ending, which features another Rubik's puzzle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3POt_yZc7Io

Enjoy,

Skarabajo.

Minecraft "Rubik's Cube"
It uses redstone and pistons (for all of you who know wtf that is :D )
There is also another one here, but it is not as fast or efficient.
Now we need a non-cubic puzzle

I am amazed at how it turns so well! I actually made a Rubik's Cube-shaped house (with a list of the twisty puzzles I own inside) in my map GoombaVille (a town I have made in Minecraft, available for free download (although the newest version available online may not have the cube house) but I never dreamed that someone could make a functionally-turning one.

I was just watching Tim Burton's Batman and noticed in one of the scenes that there is not only a Rubik's cube, but a 3x3 cuboctahedron
which leads me to believe someone on the team for that movie must have been a cuber
just an interesting fact, I can't find a picture of it because I'm not sure how to play the movie on my computer but if anyone else could that would be awesome (the movie came out in 1989 so whoever put it there must have really been a fanatic)

This month's Discover Magazine has a Rubik's cube on the cover. I guess it relates to Dark Matter. The website only has a small thumbnail of it, but it's here:

Edit: It was pointed out to me that there is a better image here:

These posters seem to appear everywhere on the subway these days, so I had to snap a shot with my cell phone camera:

Image

The poster says: Looking for a last minute Christmas present?
For the handy one: A multi-tool
For the hair fixated one: A hair straightener
For the smart one: A Rubik's cube
:-)

Also, I happened to notice that a Rubik's cube is briefly visible at about 05:58 in episode 7 of the second season of the TV series In Treatment from 2009:

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but the original Swedish version of this movie, Let The Right One In also contains scenes with a Rubik's Cube.

The latest Centrum Vitamins advert in the UK features a Rubik's Cube as the basis of the advert.

A regrettably bad recent episode of Spongebob, "The Krabby Patty that ate Bikini Bottom," features an all knowing 4x4 at 9:15 of this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJKBxPARpsQ

In the center of Helsinki we have this:

The cube is animated, and if I remember correctly, it's based on a solve by a Finnish speedsolver. Can't remember the time though.
Sorry, couldn't find a better picture.
