YES! Finally everyone can experience this amazing puzzle! Honestly, this is the only puzzle I've actually been waiting to be mass produced since the Master Skewb. Looks like my collection might have two starminxes in it soon enough.

Hooray! I can't wait to get this one. I don't have enough dodecahedrons Although we're still waiting on that rex-dodecahedron thing... I hope it comes out soon too (oh wait... I was kind of ninja'd on this)

NICE!!! This will be on my must have list. Carl P.S. We now have mass produced versions of all these except the Hybrid Starminx-Pentultimate aka Master Pentultimate. That one can't be too far behind.

Mf8 is a great company! So many beautiful and challenging new puzzles! This one, IMO, tops them all! Great job guys! This is a true milestone in mass production.

Holy whoa. I'm impressed with the number of dodecahedron puzzles mf8 has released in the last year or so. Plus, they've still got the rex dodecahedron on the way.

This looks like the perfect addition to my collection. These poor things have been begging for a new friend for months and I think I've just found it. wwwmwww wrote: P.S. AWESOME I don't think many collections will be without one of these, they will have to make a few, I think. I know I'm just getting greedy, but can we have the Pentultimate too, please. Cheers, Burgo.

This is fantastic news, although it does sadden me, that the rex dodecahedron has been quite for a while and still hasn't been released.

It could be seen as either. Personally, I see it as a good thing. An amazing puzzle is being made available to a large number of people. You could see it as one less Shapeways puzzle, or one less rarity, but this is also a puzzle that's been available on Shapeways for a year now. Granted it was unavailable due to quality for most of that year, but its target audience has probably been hit. Those of us who REALLY wanted a starminx, enough to shell out over $100 for one, have had and enjoyed it for a while now.

If you've played with the Helicopter Dodecahedron, you'll know why. I've hurt my hands so many times with that puzzle.

katsmoon recently showed (but then deleted the photos) the mechanism of this StarMinx. this is an exact copy of a mechanism invented by Aleh. no it is not stealing - it's a coincidence;) for instance - I also came up with this mechanism for my StellaMinx - because it is the best approach! Drew and Tomz used other mechanisms (they have more parts, I think their mechanisms are more complex). Aleh told me that he had no complaints about the MF8, although they had not contacted him. on photo Aleh handmade StarMinx

It looks like with that mech they could actually make 1.1.4 too by exposing the Megaminx corners. I like 1.1.4 a bit more than the Starminx but the Starminx is great too!
Any indication of how well it turns? Those Pyraminx Crystal edges look like they are floating in much the same way as the Pyraminx Crystal. Add to that floating Starminx points and the puzzle might feel a bit squishy.

I am not saying this is bad or unfair for anyone who invented it earlier. But I just wouldn't mind. bmenrigh wrote: It looks like with that mech they could actually make 1.1.4 too by exposing the Megaminx corners. Awesome idea.

You didn't imagine anything. I did take the photos down. I'll load them again at a later date. Brainbox is at the office, but quite frankly, I'm too snowed under to even attempt to go through all those photos.
And to me, it looks slightly different, but maybe that is just the difference between the handmade loooove and mass production.

Jared wrote: Can a (master) Pentultimate be made from this same mechanism? >_> It doesn't look like it. With this mech there is no way for the Pentultimate corners to hold in place. All the Starminx pieces look like they are floating above the Megaminx and being held in by the extended Megaminx corners. Some redesigning would have to be done to make this work for the Master Pentultimate.

Ah, silly me, I got the Megaminx and Pentultimate corners confused. Still... it'd be fairly easy to make an Astrominx from this too.

what does "soon" mean? ^^ Does that mean the other new puzzles are coming soon too. They can't keep announcing more puzzles. It's almost too much

I think it's much smarter to say 'soon' because that way you aren't nearly as disappointing, especially with the number of puzzles MF8 has been working on. I can wait a year for this puzzle! But "soon" sounds promising

All the Starminx pieces look like they are floating above the Megaminx and being held in by the extended Megaminx corners. Some redesigning would have to be done to make this work for the Master Pentultimate. I know this is off topic, sorry for anyone who does not want to read this here now: Couldn't the pieces of this starminx be shaped spherical too, just like the megaminx underneath is already and then only the centers be extended and enlargened a little to make space for floating corners? Shaped like those of a Skewb kind off? That would give the normal Pentultimate. Now on topic: I think "soon" sounds promising enough. And I guess it's really not going to be long anymore. Usually when these topics are made it really does happen soon after.

Well, and a bit of bandaging. I expect we will see the Pentultimate, but I think it'll be at least a year or so.
