This is the puzzle I hinted at here. It is what you get when you combine the cuts of a regular 3x3 cube and a curvy copter. The puzzle measures 60mm to an edge, making it the same size as a helicopter cube. Turning is surprisingly smooth, considering the number of pieces. This puzzle can be bought in two parts from my Shapeways shop for a total of $165. Part 1: http://www.shapeways.com/model/311560/Part 2: http://www.shapeways.com/model/311562/Video

Such an amazing puzzle and the size of the (visible) pieces seems pretty extreme when you look at the centers of each face. The turning is even great and *gasp* I think you cut corners with it in the video!

The puzzle looks fantastic! I love when people combine puzzles and make something entirely new... this is one of my favorites as of now!

Wow. I've known about this for some time, but I never saw an image of it. I always presumed it was a Curvy Copter with a 3x3x3 with weird proportions so it would easier to design. But wow! This is excellent! I would love to buy one for myself (maybe next year) .

As Palmer says in The Thing, "You have gotta be _____ kidding". A beautiful puzzle, which is screaming out to be mass produced. I want to buy this, but my lottery numbers won't come up.

Seeing as there are many small and intricate parts to this puzzle already, I was just wondering as to how hard it would be to design a Curvy Copter Plus + 3x3x3?

I believe it is a curvy copter + 3x3. Look at picture 4 Robert

I believe it is a curvy copter + 3x3. Look at picture 4 Robert Luke was asking if I could combine the cuts of a Curvy Copter Plus with those of a 3x3. I can take a look and see if it is possible, but it may interfere with the 3x3 mech.

Now, this really something. Great idea and great achievement. I have wondered always, if you will become one of the famous designers and then I would own the first puzzle casted by you Seems that you are getting close And as Andreas has said, great pictures, too!

Truly beautiful puzzle. I am looking forward to getting my Mefferts (TomZ) Curvy Copter soon. And maybe, just maybe, if we are all really lucky, Mefferts will snap this one up too? The finish is immaculate too - well done.

pirsquared wrote: Do helicopter jumbling moves cause any problems for the 3x3 solve? (I'm not talking about bandaging, but about putting the puzzle into unexpected orbits). I'm wondering the same thing. I'm guessing no. I think this puzzle has a number of states which would be the product of the number of states of a normal 3x3x3 and the number of states of a Curvy Copter. You can scramble the 3x3x3 like cuts to get to all the states of a 3x3x3 and from there just treat it like a Curvy Copter to see this. I don't see how you could get to a different 3x3x3 state using just Curvy Copter turns let alone get into an unallowed 3x3x3 state. I'd love to see the mech of this puzzle. I enjoy seeing two puzzles joined into one like this... especially when they still turn this well. However in this case the union of puzzle A and puzzle B I think its just that. The product of states A and B. I personally prefer the cases where the union of A and B produced something greater then the product of states A and B, at least from a puzzle solving stand point. An example would be the 48 Cube which can be thought of as the union of a 2x2x2 and a 24 Cube. From an engineer/mech stand point though this is right up there and its been pulled off beautifully. Great Job!!! Carl

nice design I love it.
Question. Does I right? as Carl Though this puzzle combined 3x3 and helicopter together, but this thing can't scramble/solve/turn/move both state in moment.
