Bubbles in a Plane by OSKAR

Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Bubbles-in-a-plane was inspired by ideas from Anthony Villaveiran and Carl Hoff, posted at the Twisty Puzzles Forum. Unlike a convention Engel's Enigma, the rotating parts do not have sixfold symmetry and they are unequally spaced. The result is a quite confusing puzzle that jumbles (bubbles?) and is fudged. The name of the puzzle hints to Antony's nickname "Boublez".

Woah Oskar! What a beast of a sliding puzzle! I like it!

How about extruding body feature and have a 3d version of this? What I mean is to make it look like four fused cylinders, and sticker the new sides. Juast asking

Excellent puzzle Oskar. I would like to see a version in the future with a colour scheme, rather than images; it's just my preferance.

Ok, on with the puzzle. The puzzle certainly is unique, though it seems a bit stiff.

It seems the only think left from the thread is the helicopter cube variant. Can't wait for that one.

Thank you for linking this thread back to the one I posted earlier this year. A lot of really neat ideas stemmed off from that one, I really excited to see more of these ideas surfacing. This one reminds me of a variation that Carl designed, it was like an off axis face turning cube. Does anyone have any plans to create any other puzzles from that thread?

It seems like it would make for a really difficult sliding puzzles. Have tried to solve it yet?

Meh, that's just the Shapeways nylon powder. Any regular Shapeways user realizes the grainy texture, and besides, prototypes don't need to have Dayan-scale turning :wink:

anyway, the puzzle is great! I quite like your 2D puzzles - then again; I like your 3D puzzles
too :lol:

I would say this puzzle does not jumble because it is fudged and doctrinaire. There is never a blocked move in this puzzle.

Anyway:
Good puzzle.

Edit: Proven wrong.
At least I provoked an improved description.

Incorrect. The puzzle does jumble. You may not have noticed it, but the angles are not multiples of 60 degrees. Please inspect the picture below (which says more than 1000 words). You see that the top left circle is turned such that the top right and bottom left circle can turn. However, the buttom right circle can not turn. We could unbandage that turn by adding some cuts, but then other turns are still impossible, etcetera, etcetera.

So this is an example of a puzzle that both jumbles and is fudged. The same is true for the 3D version of this puzzle, the Bubble Block.
