Well a new friend of mine (I just met him today!) had submitted the following sentence in his report:

"The dependency of the results to the mesh density has been checked".

Now, his report was marked and his sentence corrected because he was told that he had to use
the word "in" instead of "to". Well, in my opinion, "to" looks fine, as well as "upon", or even "towards".

I know that all this heavily depends on the meaning of the sentence, so I kindly ask to help
if you are 100% sure. If you are unsure, please do not confuse me more! LOL

In my opinion, the logical meaning of this sentence is crucial. If "mesh density" is connected with "dependency" it should read "The dependency of the results on the mesh density", meaning that the results depend on mesh density.
If "mesh density" is connected with "results", I would use for clarity: "The dependency of the results regarding the mesh density has been checked".

Panda, if the mesh density depends on the results, then to is not so good. Upon works as well as on in this case.

BUT, if the the results depend on the mesh density then to is what you want. Semantics seem to matter in this case. Just what exactly does your friend mean?

I know there should be some notational way to write this that wouldn't be trivial or novel but I simply don't know the mathematical symbols.
