This is my latest puzzle. I am not sure about the name for this puzzle. Right now I'm calling it the Square-1 cross cube. This was the puzzle I was going to make before my gigahexaminx but shapeways made a mistake in my order and I got the missing parts reprinted for free and I got them yesterday.

It's a simple idea and I have always wanted this puzzle so I decided to make it myself. It's basically a 2x2 with square-1 faces attached to each side. The turning on the puzzle is really good and I can actually solve this one! I will be making a video of this sometime soon. I would be willing to sell these in my shapeways shop if people sound interested. It would probably cost about $160. I probably should have made the puzzle a bit smaller... But oh well. Enjoy!

Great job!

I feel like I've seen this before but maybe not. I do really love the look of the 2x2x2 stickers for some reason

Thanks! I designed it so there was a small gap for the stickers so they wouldn't get scraped off. I also made sure that the Square-1 pieces didn't hang off and cause bandaging.

Utterly amazing. This takes shape-changing and then multiplies it by itself :D

I know it will never get mass-produced, but I want one 8-) (for under $150)

It's definitely been handmade before, many years ago, saw a picture of it somewhere.
I can't remember where, or who made it, though :?
Very nice, though, it looks great! :D :D

Unfortunately it has been made before, but it does look very nice. Maybe if you want to make it unique you could make it a Square-2 Cross Cube.

The very depiction of epicness. I can only imagine how tricky that is to solve! Inspired design, and brilliant work (:

The time machine is a square-2 with all edge pieces, this has SQ-1 edges and corners.

I'm fairly sure this exact version has been made before too, though.

Thanks for all the compliments! I thought someone might have made it before since it was a simple concept but I searched everywhere and I never found it. I didn't realize how similar it was to the time machine until after I bought it but oh well. The one aleh gave a link to actually has overhang bandaging which I think would make solving more annoying. I really enjoyed solving this one!

Didya read Luke's post? He was talking about trying the Square-2 for a unique puzzle but I stated that it would not be the first of its kind.

hmm that's a good question. I'm not really sure. It would probably take me about 15 minutes ish.

.. and as I liked Olivier Polspoel's original idea very much, I am glad I won cubedude76's version.

I released it this morning from customs and can report, that it is a prefectly working puzzle. It turns nicely on all axes, not too tight, not too loose.
No further breaking in required. It will be fun to play with.

Thanks! - Frank

In august, the 25th of 2008.
See the original thread on francocube.com

And Spols gallery linked in the thread:
http://spols.ovh.org/cube/album.php?album=0303square_in_one

So the name is "3square in one".

But great job anyway.
