My guess would be a Pentagram/DeFTI. Seeing as they have a DeFTI on their way, it makes sense for them to produce the Rex Dodecahedron (or as I like to call it, the Dodecarex).

A 'Master Skewb' Dodecahedron would be a shallower-cut Pentagram, where internal edges would be externally visible. Or, you can think of it as this Rex Dodecahedron with corners.
Either way, I'm extremely excited for this amazing design! I can't wait for its arrival. This has got to be the first mass-produced puzzle that's stricken so much interest in me since the Helicopter cube.

I have just received my MF8 Gigaminx and am on the third sticker colour set - this is going to take ages! If these new cubes are as good as the Giga for build and turning, then I am going to have to save up (especially for the Rex)
When will the Rex be going up on the site Calvin?

The helicopter dodecahedron is now available for pre-order on the mf8 webiste at http://shop.mf8.com.cn/goods.php?id=80. It will cost $37.99, which is not bad value in my opinion. I will definitely be getting one.

You can do that to your helicopter cube too, although not exactly. You can make it look like two corners are twisted. On the dodecahedron you can apparently make it look like a side was twisted. All the edges below got turned by some funny angle. Good for patterns.

Rox, have you played with one of these? Does it turn on the faces and edges then? I'm fairly sure that it is trick photography.

The puzzle could be face turning, but it could also be trickery. Can you guys confirm that it is either edge turning, or face and edge turning.

I think the first photo that mf8 just posted shows a pattern that can be made from edge-turning. The second one shows a top view of the same pattern, so it looks like a face was rotated. I'm pretty sure it's not face turning, based on those pics.

I don't think it could be both edge and face turning, could it? If it was, it wouldn't be a helicopter dodecahedron, and surely the internal mechanism would be much more complex? Is face+edge turning even possible?

Certainly possible. I'm now certain this isn't a face turning puzzle, because otherwise the face turning cuts would be deeper than a Pyraminx Crystal (and inverted weirdly).

The image shown in the picture with the faces apparently twisted 30 degrees is the dodecahedral equivalent of this pattern on the Cubic Helicopter: viewtopic.php?p=245173#p245173I just got my ice blue dino dodecahedron in the mails. One of the neat things about it is the flip-ability of the edges, which are notably absent on the cubic dino. Fun puzzle. I am very exited about the prospect of the 20-virtual axis deeper cut corner-turning dodecahedron. Will probably buy both the helicopter and the star minx together when both are finally out. I can save money on the shipping that way.

false advertisment. I hate stuff like this. An experienced cuber can see it, but the majority of the byers will believe that it has two differnet cuts.

If it was assembled into this state do we really know this state is reachable? Carl

The helicopter dodecahedron was available on the mf8 website, saying there was one (?) in stock. I ordered and paid for this, my order was accepted, I have an email confirmation from PayPal, but the mf8 site now it says "out of stock". Have I just been lucky?

I am very fascinated by the 20-(virtual)-axis one with the flower petals in the centers. I will buy one each of the Rex Dodecahedron (Flower Petal design) and helicopter dodecahedron once both are out and readily available. I never really liked my Rex Cube all that much, but after having seen the Dodecahedral equivalent, I have found a new appreciation for this puzzle. They would look great side-by-side. Another plus, no nightmarish 5-fold pentagonal orientation to deal with, or trying to recognise 20 different colors, as would certainly be the case with an actual FTI.

Yesterday, my Helicopter Dodecahedron has arrived Today, I have stickered it (stickers have the same quality and colours as for the Dino Dodecahedron). Turning is a bit tight, but it will be OK after breaking in and lubrication. EDIT: I have lubricated, scrambled and solved it and as I had predicted, it turns quite OK.

Hmm these puzzles look beautiful. I know some people don't like the circular cuts of the helicopter dodecahedron, but i think they look very nice.
My only thought is why is a Mefferts helicopter CUBE about the same price?

I've received mine today. I bought it from the Jade club mail link (cheap!) and it arrived 3 weeks from the order date. It got flagged by the customs because the postage was in HK dollars but it was written as $69.10. That's probably the post office's (de)fault and can't be changed, but I figured some of you would like to be warned I didn't have to pay anything in the end, though. I think the price was just low enough to slip through The puzzle is great. It's beautiful and sticker quality is quite reasonable. It was a bit stiff at first but now turning is getting better even without lubrication. I think this is going to be my favourite puzzle for a while

Mefferts does have a helicopter cube: http://www.mefferts.com/products/detail ... =13&id=327http://www.amazon.com/Mefferts-Helicopt ... B0044YMMCC... and its $35 while this is $38 Jason Smith has made the Helicopter Cubes and Meffert's have sold them for a while. You will have seen that they are "out of stock" (longer than a year). Originally, the price had been $25 at TheTwistyStore. I'm pretty sure that the Amazon offer is not authorized by Meffert's. You can order Helicopter cubes legally from Jason's son Zane. Have a look here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=21393&hilit=thetwistystoreI do not know if the Amazon offer is legal, probably Puzzlemaster has got them at the same time as Meffert's. EDIT: I have changed my last sentence, due to PM I've got.

Unknown to many puzzlers, the Helicopter Cubes were produced in Mefferts factories in cooperation with Jason, and eventually sold as Jason's own.

Everything I've read says Jason Smith and Adam G. Cowan teamed up to produce the helicopter cube on their own and only sold a batch of them to mefferts.
