"Hello, I'm Claus Wenicker, and this is the Gear Megaminx. Gear Megaminx was designed by Oskar van Deventer, who is currently quite ticked off I beat him to prototyping his own puzzle. Gear Megaminx turns.... ....as you can see, it gets scrambled really quickly. Thank you for watching."

Great puzzle!

It looks fantastic, honestly better than I expected based on the pictures on shapeways.

...Who said this was impossible?

I'd love to see the instances where turns are blocked.

I'm guessing this is the hardest puzzle to solve that has been built to date. I wonder how this thread would apply to this puzzle.

A very nice puzzle.

But wait, how many edges are there on it that even spin about? It doesn't look like many to me.

If i'm right, there are 6 gears on this puzzle (1 / face)

Nice build but way to extreme for my taste and here's why. Why can't the green red edge piece in the second picture be on every edge minus the color then in my humble opinion it would be a true gear minx. or wouldn't that work?

It wouldn't work. All gear puzzles turn the two sides next to it. The problem is that there are 5 sides which can all be geared with the same side, and so the puzzle wouldn't turn. I'll let someone else who is better at explaining say it.

Looks great! Nice work Oskar and Claus!

I came up with the idea of a geared tuttminx, with gears on all the edges between 2 hexagonal faces.

Here is a picture of what I mean:

I think this should work.

Oh, it'll work alright.

Two questions now arise:

1. How many teeth?

2. Can there be a version for the Futtminx?

Wouldn't all of the pentagonal sides turn at once with this though?

By the looks of his diagram, yes.

Thats would actually be pretty interesting. Oskar, where are you

Although I wouldn't like it as a futtminx, that would really mess up the gearing.

I was talking about a Megaminx with faces that turn one opposite to the other... but then again that proved to be possible by making a gear master pentultimate and changing it back to a megaminx...

And the geared tuttminx would have too much friction... sadly
