Curvy Octahedral Mexaminx

The Curvy Octahedral Megaminx is a cast puzzle that I just completed. It is a close relative of the Curvy Hexaminx, but is of higher quality and has a better-turning mechanism, in my opinion. It is a fully-cast puzzle made with Smoothcast 300. Molds were made with OOMOO 30 and, my new favorite mold material, Mold Star 15. The masters were printed by Shapeways in their Transparent Detail (Objet) material.

I am aware that similar puzzles have been built before by Andreas Nortmann and (possibly) a few others, but I have enjoyed taking the concept and aesthetics of the Curvy Hexaminx and bring them further in this build!

This has been done before, albeit with a different aesthetic. Nice build though, it's been one of my favorite puzzles.

Beautiful! I love the pattern the cuts make on the faces.
I have to ask, will you be selling this (or, for that matter, the Curvy Hexaminx) on Shapeways?

I'll consider selling the Curvy Hexaminx on Shapeways since so many people have asked. I doubt I'll ever sell the octahedral one on Shapeways, though

This does look pretty cool. I'd love to buy one of these on Shapeways, depending on the price of course.

That's the problem - it will be difficult to get it down to an affordable price. I'd have to hollow it out quite a bit.

I feel when I see a casted puzzle that it is a big accomplishment. There isn't enough casting going on anymore. We're in the cubing age of full prints. You find very rarely anymore casted puzzles. Therefore, this is a great accomplishment, and the casted pieces look awesome. I remember before everyone just made full prints, everyone casted their puzzles. That was before the forum discovered shapeways. Once again, I am glad to see a casted puzzle, and the turning of casted puzzles are always better than WSF.

Yes, I feel exactly the same way. I was really excited about Shapeways when I first heard about it, but I realized it can never match the quality and the great feeling of satisfaction that you get after completing a cast puzzle. I'm glad someone else feels the same.
