Hi Twisty Fans!

I know that people have requested Oskar van Deventer to hollow some of his old puzzles. A while ago, he made an offer to me in the Hex Cube thread:

Oskar, please hollow out your old puzzles.
I listen to my valued customers. Please contact me privately, so we can select one old puzzle design for hollowing out. Here is the deal: if you find me two or more buyers for that puzzle (including yourself), then I'll dye, sticker and assemble them at my own cost.

Oskar
I have thought long about this, and have requested that the Uncanny Cube/ Canny Uncube be reworked to make it more affordable. Oskar listens to his customers! DoubleYou made a similar request for the Fairly Twisted:

But if I can afford it, then I would be ready to buy a Fairly Twisted
Hi Sigurd,

I made Fairly Fudged, which is based on Fairly Twisted, but now also the pentagonal face can turn, thank to a bit of fudging. I made it as hollow as I could. Anywhere near your price point?

Oskar
The original Fairly Twisted is on sale at $320.13 under the current pricing scheme, but Oskar has reworked the same puzzle and added additional movement by "fudging" the mechanism. The new "Fairly Fudged" (not yet prototyped) is set at $152.56 under the current pricing scheme. That is a reduction of slightly more than 50%, with new functionality! In fact I will probably buy one as well, once I have seen video of a working prototype :D

I would personally like to see the Uncanny Cube or Canny Uncube hollowed out and reduced price. I believe it is a good candidate for hollowed design due to it's simplicity and elegance. They are currently listed at $402.44 and $346.71 respectively, and I pledge to buy one if the price and design can optimized by a considerable margin. Oskar has also stated since the Canny Uncube and Uncanny Cube mostly share the same mechanism and parts, if there is enough interest to to rework/hollow one, that he will rework both of them together.

If you are seriously interested in owning an Uncanny Cube or Canny Uncube at a more affordable price, please post below or send a PM to Oskar. I would love to see more of his creations made more affordable on Shapeways :solved:

EDIT: I updated the thread title to open discussion on other Oskar creations. Discussions commense...

I would be interested in getting one, but I'd like to see the price difference before properly considering.

Good news! I have received an email from Oskar indicating that the job has been finished! New prices are as follows:

Uncanny Cube: $ 177.08
Canny Uncube: $ 180.08

But wait... The offer still stands - if Oskar can find another willing buyer, then he will dye and sticker the puzzle himself at no extra cost. PM Oskar or reply here if you're still interested

Wow, that's amazing that Oskar is willing to do this! I'll definitely consider it though my funds are low at the moment. What I'd love to see next is the mixup cube hollowed out too. Its appearance as a regular cube with movable 45 degree turns to swap centers amazes me to no end!

The mixup cube will be forever my priority and I wish he could mass produce it (maybe meffert's new puzzle next month O.o) Anyways, when I get the money and he hollows it out, I'll buy it :D

It's funny you bring up the mixup Cube: A while ago I dreamt up a 4x4x4 puzzle based on a heavily modified Rubik's core design with double-wide grooves, except with internal 2x2x2 like the crazy 1 but with corners fused onto the core. The split edges had feet onthem just like the corners, which held them in to allow 45 degree rotations of one or both inner layers. This would also cause adjacent middle layers of the puzzle to jumble/bandage. A split 4x4x4 edge could displace two centers. Oskar said that my idea for the mech with sliding tracks probably wouldn't be much stable. At the time I wasn't even aware of the mixup cube, which is basicaly a 3x3x3 version of that same concept :P

But yes, it would be great as well if mixup cube got hollowed, or better yet mass-produced :solved:

Here are screens shots of the new design. Specs:
Hollow spherical core, robust shells mechanism
Rounded with radiuses similar to several Mefferts puzzles

Thanks Oskar! It is great to see this puzzle properly hollowed. While I'm not currently ready to invest in another custom puzzle, I will definitely keep this one on my list in the near future

I find it a little ironic that it's still more expensive that the geared mixup despite being much less intricate. $200 US dollars is still a fair price I guess

Congats on the Fadi/Mosaic cube newly mass-produced by Meffert as well

Could you maybe shrink and hollow the geared mixup cube?
